A prominent engineering consultancy is looking for a Project Manager to oversee engineering projects for their Electrical-Optical Materials department. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of engineering experience and at least 3 years of project management experience. Candidates must be fluent in Dutch and have very good English skills. This freelance role offers options for long-term contracts and is based in Olen, Belgium.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years professional experience in engineering and industrial project management.
At least 3 years leading technical industrial projects.
Broad general knowledge of different engineering disciplines.
Strong project-management and reporting skills.
Technical knowledge in electromechanics and chemistry.

Responsabilités

Define project scope and specific deliverables.
Assemble and lead the project team.
Prepare specifications and tender documents.
Prepare specifications and tender documents for orders, firms and contractors.
Select orders and contractors, considering resources and outsourcing.
Direct and monitor internal and external resources.
Maintain client contact and implement scope changes.
Report to stakeholders.

Rotation: Monday-Friday.
Type: Freelance contract.

A global player in material technology. A stable international group and at the same time a top Belgian company with four locations in our country. We develop technologies and produce materials for high-performance solar cells used in satellites, rechargeable batteries, LED applications, catalysts… Through recycling, we recover valuable metals from, among other things, laptops and mobile phones.

Department Description

You’ll work on a project for the Electrical-Optical Materials (EOM) department, but managed by the CSM department. EOM: Power in space. Vision at night. Coatings thinner than human hair. This client is a world leader in Germanium material solutions for the space, optics and electronics sectors – enabling every day cutting-edge technologies. We guarantee our customers secure access to supply, plus recycling technologies that give materials a new lease of life. To produce materials with even higher performance, and provide recycling to new markets, we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new processes. Which is where you come in.

Project Description

You’ll participate in engineering projects for our business unit EOM to modernize, adapt and expand their Germanium production facilities on the Olen site.

Primary Tasks & Responsibilities

Responsible for defining the project scope.
In consultation with the client:
- Defining specific deliverables: what is complete when the project is finished?
- Defining constraints (budget, planning).
Responsible for assembling and leading the project team.
Responsible for the technical design of the entire project.
Responsible for preparing specifications / tender documents for orders, engineering firms, and contractors (both internal and external).
Responsible for the selection of orders, engineering firms, and contractors, also considering specific resources, e.g., designers, but also outsourcing (part) projects.
Directing and monitoring all resources, both internal and external.
Maintaining contact with the client throughout the project to capture and assess changes. If agreed upon, implementing them in the project (scope changes).
Reporting to stakeholders.

Technical profile requirements

You are an engineer with a minimum of 5 years professional experience and already managed industrial projects.
At least 3 years of experience leading technical industrial project.
You have a broad general knowledge of the different disciplines: Mechanics, electricity, piping, Civil…
Knowledge and application of all common project management aspects.
Academic thinking level (analytical but also helicopter view).
Technical knowledge such as electromechanics, chemistry.
Good reporting skills.

Non-Technical profile requirements

Team player, communicative at all levels (clients, colleagues, suppliers, higher management…).
You can manage and coach a team.
You are able to challenge your project team-members in the proposed solutions.
You ask ‘the right’ questions at all times.
You have broad experience and great interest in technology, engineering, and project management.
