Process engineer on weekend shifts - Imager Optics Integration Components

imec is a world-leading research and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies, developing advanced solutions for sectors including healthcare, automotive, communications, and smart systems.
The Imager Optics Integration Components team, part of Technology Integration & Prototyping (TIP), focuses on integrating advanced optical and imaging components for next-generation image sensors, wafer-level optical systems, and technology demonstrators. The team works closely with process, design, characterization, metrology, equipment, and program teams to translate concepts into robust integration flows and reliable prototypes.
As a Process engineer, you will support advanced imager optics integration projects by coordinating wafer-processing activities, following up on integration steps, monitoring progress, and documenting results under the guidance of senior integration engineers and project leaders. In this role, you will connect process experts, project teams, and manufacturing operations to ensure efficient and controlled execution.

What you will do

• Support process integration activities for imager optics and optical component projects, including customer and internal R&D projects, under the guidance of experienced integration engineers.
• Maintain integration documentation, process flows, and project-tracking tools.
• Contribute to other TIP projects when needed, supporting integration execution, follow-up, and coordination.
• Coordinate wafer logistics and monitor execution across process modules and cleanroom areas.
• Consolidate process and metrology data to support project follow-up and decision-making.
• Support experimental work involving material stacks, process modules, and integration splits.
• Take part in technical discussions, integration reviews, and project progress meetings.
• Support root-cause analysis for process deviations, integration issues, and non-conformities.
• Ensure traceability of process changes, deviations, learnings, and corrective actions.
• Work with process module engineers on improvements and corrective actions.
• Apply established methodologies, documentation practices, and quality standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of integration processes and project follow-up.
• This position is on shift regime - regular business hours schedule and 2 weekends per month (shift premiums and recuperation days are provided).

Who you are

• You have a Master's degree in Nanoelectronics, Electrical engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials science, Microsystems engineering, photonics, optics, or related discipline.
• Relevant experience in semiconductor technology, photonics, process integration, MEMS, or manufacturing engineering.
• Cleanroom, semiconductor-processing, or technology-development experience is a strong asset.
• Experience with technical documentation, data analysis, project tracking, and reporting.
• Familiarity with experimental work and multidisciplinary R&D environments.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills.
• Structured, accurate, and detail-oriented working style.
• Clear communication skills and ability to engage with technical stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Proactive mindset combined with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic R&D environment.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• Position located in Leuven, Belgium. Onsite presence is required.
• You are willing to work 2 weekends per month (shift premiums and recuperation days are provided).
