Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher, AI Safety, to join the Data, Data Science & AI organization. This fixed-term two-year role reports to the Scientific Fellow, AI Safety, with a focus on governance through provable controls and adversarial assurance.

The role can be based at sites in Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK or Ireland. You will lead a focused research program, develop experiments, publish results, and collaborate with engineering to integrate

Qualifications

• PhD in computer science, AI/ML, applied mathematics, or closely related field.
• First-author research publications/preprints in AI safety/alignment, AI/ML for cybersecurity, formal methods, or closely related area.
• Hands-on experience with foundation models and agentic AI, including failure modes.
• Strong programming skills (Python) and experience building reproducible experiments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English for scientific/engineering audiences.
• Scientific rigor in characterizing model and agent behavior, including uncertainty and failure conditions.

Responsibilities

• Execute an independent research agenda on controls, adversarial assurance, or safety-native architecture for agentic AI in regulated settings.
• Design rigorous, reproducible experiments with baselines and uncertainty estimates.
• Evaluate data interventions and post-training methods for safety in regulated use cases.
• Prototype layered architectures constraining agent behavior and translate requirements into specs.
• Collaborate with platform engineering to move methods from prototype to platform with reproducible documentation.
• Present work to scientific, engineering, and leadership audiences and represent the team at events.
