Job summary

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Director, Research Data Systems to lead the research data technology capabilities enabling trusted, governed, reusable data across the Research organization. You will drive a major transformation to bring data from fragmented systems into a FAIR environment accelerating discovery and AI-enabled science.

You will partner with scientists, data science, analytics, governance, and platform teams to operate data platforms, ingestion, metadata, cataloging, and data products

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Life Sciences; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive technology leadership experience with relevant focus.
• Solid experience in research data platform engineering, scientific data architecture, laboratory informatics, or enterprise research data management.
• Good background in designing and implementing cloud-based FAIR data environments, semantic and metadata capabilities, and enterprise master/reference data solutions.
• Experience in life sciences, healthcare, biotech, pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated environments preferred.
• Good understanding of FAIR data principles, data product management, data contracts, research governance workflows, privacy, security, compliance, AI-ready data, and platform operating models.
• Shown to successfully lead multi-functional teams and influence research leaders and scientists.
• Outstanding communication skills with the ability to translate complex data platform and governance topics into clear business decisions and outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead scalable data ingestion and curation services across platforms and pipelines.
• Enable tools for standardized naming, provenance, and semantic interoperability.
• Partner with data product teams and scientists to ensure data quality and context.
• Provide governed access to distributed R&D data through data virtualization and secure access.
• Define and operate FAIR frameworks, standards, thresholds, and executive reporting.
• Collaborate with data owners, stewards, DDSAI, product teams, and business functions on quality rules and FAIR criteria.
• Establish automated monitoring and governance across diverse research data assets.
• Translate FAIR insights into remediation priorities and improvement roadmaps.
