KU Leuven invites applications for a fully funded 4-year PhD position in scalable EMT simulation and automated stability assessment. The research is conducted within the ELECTA group and EnergyVille-Etch, focusing on converter-dominated transmission systems and scalable workflows.

The PhD aims to advance EMT modelling, parallel computing, and automated screening, with collaboration across academia and industry in Genk, Belgium.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with strong academic results.
• Interest in power systems dynamics, stability, and numerical simulation.
• Experience with scientific programming and HPC is desirable.
• Excellent English communication skills.

Responsabilités

• Develop computational foundations for scalable EMT stability assessment.
• Create automated workflows for large-scale stability studies and contingency screening.
• Research model reduction, dynamic equivalencing and network partitioning.
• Implement parallel and high-performance computing approaches for EMT simulation.
• Validate methods on realistic utility-scale transmission models.
• Collaborate with EnergyVille and industrial partners.
