Motherwell Bridge Industries Limited seeks a Mechanical Technician to inspect, maintain and repair mechanical systems on port terminal equipment, including STS cranes and RTGs. You will ensure safe, reliable operation in line with procedures and industry standards.

Key duties include preventive and corrective maintenance, inspection of gearboxes, brakes, hoists, hydraulic systems and bearings, diagnosing faults, and supporting installations or upgrades.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems in heavy industrial/port equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, manuals and technical documentation.
• Proficient with hand and power tools and mechanical measuring equipment.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and safety-conscious work practices.

Responsabilités

• Perform preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on cranes and terminal equipment.
• Inspect, service and repair gearboxes, brakes, hoists, wire ropes, bearings and hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot mechanical faults and diagnose failures using diagnostic methods.
• Conduct inspections, lubrication, adjustments and component replacements for optimal performance.
• Support installation, overhaul and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment.
• Work safely at heights and in confined spaces within port operations.

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems on port terminal equipment, including Ship-to-Shore (STS)cranes, Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes, and other heavy industrial machinery. The role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably in compliance with company procedures and industry standards

Main Duties

• Perform preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on cranes and terminal equipment.
• Inspect, service, and repair mechanical components including gearboxes, brakes, hoists, wire ropes, sheaves, bearings, hydraulic systems, and structural elements.
• Troubleshoot mechanical faults and diagnose failures using appropriate tools and diagnostic methods.
• Carry out routine inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacements to ensure optimal performance.
• Support breakdown recovery activities to minimise operational downtime.
• Assist with installation, overhaul, upgrades, and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment.
• Work safely at heights and in confined spaces as required within port operations.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety procedures, risk assessments, and port regulations

• Minimum MQF level 3 education
• Minimum 3 to 5 years experiencein a similar role
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, braking systems, and rotating machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, and technical documentation.
• Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and mechanical measuring equipment.
• Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Strong safety awareness, particularly in heavy industrial and port environments.
