Optimus Search is seeking a freelance Mechanical Engineer with hands-on experience designing and developing industrial machinery. You will support mechanical design activities, from creating and modifying technical drawings to assisting in the development of mechanical systems and components.

This role is ideal for engineers who want to stay close to the technical work, without project management duties, and who can work independently on a freelance basis in a production environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical engineering within industrial machinery.
• Proficient in SolidWorks, Inventor or AutoCAD.
• Understanding of welding, machining and sheet metal processes.
• Ability to read and create technical drawings and BOMs.
• Available for freelance/project work and fluent in English (Dutch or French a plus).

Responsabilités

• Design and modify mechanical parts and assemblies for industrial equipment.
• Produce and interpret detailed 2D/3D mechanical drawings (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD).
• Support prototyping, testing, and mechanical validation processes.
• Collaborate with internal technical teams (and where applicable, suppliers or manufacturers).
• Ensure work complies with technical and safety standards.
• Assist in troubleshooting and continuous improvement of machinery designs.

Job Overview

We are looking for a Freelance Mechanical Engineer with hands‑on experience in the design and development of industrial machinery. In this role, you will support mechanical design activities across a variety of manufacturing projects — from creating and modifying technical drawings to assisting in the development of mechanical systems and components.

Ideal for technically strong engineers who prefer staying close to the engineering work without being involved in project management.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and modify mechanical parts and assemblies for industrial equipment
• Produce and interpret detailed 2D/3D mechanical drawings (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD)
• Support prototyping, testing, and mechanical validation processes
• Perform basic mechanical calculations and select suitable materials/components\ i>
• Collaborate with internal technical teams (and where applicable, suppliers or manufacturers)
• Ensure work complies with technical and safety standards
• Assist in troubleshooting and continuous improvement of machinery designs

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in mechanical engineering within industrial machinery or production environments
• Proficiency with mechanical design tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD
• Sound understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., welding, machining, sheet metal)
• Ability to read and create technical drawings and BOMs
• Comfortable working independently on a freelance/project basis
• Fluent in English (Dutch or French is a plus, depending on location)

Nice to Have (Not Mandatory)

• Experience with machinery used in food, packaging, or process industries
• Familiarity with CE marking or other relevant compliance standards
• On‑site availability for support, installation, or testing phases
