Job summary

In4Matic is seeking an experienced Lead System Engineer in Genk, Belgium. You will lead and coach a team of eight System Engineers while staying hands-on with IT infrastructure, security and customer projects.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, introducing new technologies and improving service quality with roughly 70% hands-on work and 30% people leadership, in a hybrid schedule with office days and customer visits.

Qualifications

• Senior System Engineer with solid hands-on experience in IT infrastructure, networking, systems administration and cybersecurity.
• Proven leadership experience: ability to mentor and coordinate engineers and motivate a team.
• Broad technical expertise: comfortable with Microsoft environments, cloud technologies, networking, hardware and security solutions.
• Security-minded: strong cybersecurity knowledge; SonicWall experience is an advantage but not required.
• Hands-on mentality: enjoys solving technical problems and supports the team and customers as needed.
• Strong people skills: communicates clearly, fosters collaboration and a positive work culture.
• Commercial awareness: understands customer needs and translates tech into business solutions.
• Innovation-driven: keeps up with tech developments and shares insights with colleagues.
• Languages: Fluent Dutch essential; basic French helpful for French-speaking customers.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and support a team of 8 System Engineers.
• Act as the team's technical reference point for complex infrastructure and security challenges.

• Focus on people leadership and technical guidance; dispatcher handles scheduling.

• Work across servers, networking, Microsoft 365, cloud solutions, workstations, printing and POS systems.
• Implement and maintain secure IT environments, including firewalls, network security and cybersecurity solutions.
• Take ownership of complex technical issues and support the team when needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure performance, reliability and security.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor for customers.
• Analyse existing IT environments and proactively recommend improvements or additional solutions.
• Combine technical expertise with a commercial mindset to identify customer needs and opportunities.
• Support technical implementations and ensure high-quality service delivery.
• Build strong, long-term customer relationships through clear communication and practical advice.

Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced Lead System Engineer who combines strong technical expertise with natural leadership skills.

In this role, you will lead and coach a team of 8 System Engineers, while remaining actively involved in technical operations, customer projects and complex IT challenges.

This is not a traditional management position. You will spend most of your time working hands‑on with IT infrastructure, supporting customers and helping your team solve technical challenges. Your mission is to strengthen the team, introduce new technologies and continuously improve the quality of IT services.

Your Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, coach and support a team of 8 System Engineers.
• Act as the team's technical reference point for complex infrastructure and security challenges.
• Encourage knowledge sharing, collaboration and a positive team culture.
• Introduce new technologies, best practices and innovative IT solutions.
• Support your colleagues in finding practical solutions to technical and operational challenges.
• Focus on people leadership and technical guidance. Operational scheduling is handled by a dedicated dispatcher.

Hands‑on IT Infrastructure & Security

• Remain actively involved in IT installations, configurations, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Work across a broad infrastructure environment, including servers, networking, Microsoft 365, cloud solutions, workstations, printing and POS systems.
• Implement and maintain secure IT environments, including firewalls, network security and cybersecurity solutions.
• Take ownership of complex technical issues and support your team when additional expertise is required.
• Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure performance, reliability and security.

Customer Advisory & Technical Projects

• Act as a trusted technical advisor for customers.
• Analyse existing IT environments and proactively recommend improvements or additional solutions.
• Combine technical expertise with a commercial mindset to identify customer needs and opportunities.
• Support technical implementations and ensure high‑quality service delivery.
• Build strong, long‑term customer relationships through clear communication and practical advice.

Your Profile

• Senior System Engineer: You have solid hands‑on experience in IT infrastructure, networking, systems administration and cybersecurity.
• Proven leadership experience: You have experience leading, mentoring or technically coordinating engineers and know how to motivate and bring a team together.
• Broad technical expertise: You are comfortable with Microsoft environments, cloud technologies, networking, hardware and security solutions.
• Security‑minded: You have strong cybersecurity knowledge. Experience with SonicWall is an advantage, but not required.
• Hands‑on mentality: You enjoy solving technical problems and are willing to step in whenever your team or customers need support.
• Strong people skills: You communicate clearly, handle challenges constructively and create a supportive, collaborative working environment.
• Commercial awareness: You understand customer needs and can translate technical expertise into relevant business solutions.
• Innovation‑driven: You actively follow technological developments and enjoy sharing new insights with your colleagues.
• Languages: Fluent Dutch is essential. Basic conversational French and the ability to understand French‑speaking customers are an advantage.
