Smile, the European leader in open-source integration, is seeking a Freelance Java Developer for Brussels. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise applications in a hybrid setup (2-3 days remote per week) with a senior-to-medior level of expertise.

You'll work on API security, REST/SOA architectures, and modern architectural practices while collaborating in an Agile environment. Fluency in Dutch or French or English is required, and IT governance knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

• Backend Java development with 3+ years (Medior) to 10+ years (Senior) experience.
• Strong Java/Java EE expertise, REST/SOA architectures, API security (OAuth2).
• Experience with SOAP/OpenAPI standards and Agile/Scrum environments.

We are currently looking for an experienced Freelance Java Developer to join us in Brussels and take part in large-scale, impactful digital projects for one of our premium clients.

Position Overview

• Status: Freelance (Independent / Prestation de services)
• Location: Brussels, Belgium (Hybrid model: 2-3 days remote per week)
• Seniority Level: Medior (3+ years) to Senior (10+ years)
• Languages: Professional proficiency in either Dutch or French OR English

Your Mission & Responsibilities

As a Freelance Java Developer, you will be integrated into a dynamic environment to design, develop, and maintain robust enterprise applications. Your main responsibilities will include:

• Designing and implementing high-quality software solutions using Java / Java EE technologies.
• Implementing and managing API and Web Services standards (OAuth2, OpenAPI, SOAP) and working within SOA / REST models.
• Translating business requirements into technical designs utilizing UML and BPMN.
• Collaborating within an Agile/Scrum methodology, while aligning with corporate governance frameworks (ITIL, PMBOK/PRINCE2).
• Contributing to architectural discussions and evolution using modern architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Archi, Sparx).
• Ensuring code quality, version control, and seamless integration using GIT and client frameworks (Axis 2, CXF, .Net compatibility).

Your Profile

• Experience: You have at least 3 years (Medior) to 10+ years (Senior) of proven experience in backend Java development.
• Core Tech Stack: Deep expertise in Java/Java EE, REST/SOA architectures, API security (OAuth2), and SOAP/OpenAPI standards.
• Methodologies: Strong familiarity with Agile/Scrum environments. Knowledge of ITIL, Prince2, or TOGAF is a major asset.
• Tools: Proficiency with GIT, UML/BPMN modeling tools (Sparx, Archi), and integration frameworks (Axis 2, CXF).
• Soft Skills: Autonomous, proactive, team-oriented, and solution-driven.
