A major life insurance organisation in Belgium is modernising the information systems that support policy administration, customer channels and intermediary operations. Within its IS Life architecture team, an IS Life Solution Architect will design end-to-end solutions and act as a Functional Designer, connecting business needs with a hybrid estate that combines COBOL on Micro Focus, .NET and Angular services, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and asynchronous integrations.

The mission

The team supports strategic initiatives across critical Belgian life insurance platforms used by customers, intermediaries and operations teams. Its work covers operational efficiency, modernisation of historical platforms, technology innovation and integrations with external partners. The landscape is deliberately hybrid: established COBOL on Micro Focus remains in use while new capabilities move towards .NET and Angular. Architecture decisions must support current operations while defining a maintainable short-term, medium-term and long-term target state.

You will join projects from initial analysis through production, translating complex business requirements into pragmatic solution options and designs. You will work with business stakeholders, IS delivery teams, transversal architecture and strategy teams, application technology, and infrastructure and operations. Your designs will be challenged and validated with technical architects, documented against architecture standards, and presented to the architecture board when required. The role suits a medior architect who can synthesise broad information, create alignment across stakeholders, and assess both implementation and run costs.

Your responsibilities

• Design end-to-end solutions for life insurance systems that translate business objectives into sustainable architectures.
• Analyse requirements and compare solution options, including dependencies, implementation costs and maintainability.
• Define domain models and asynchronous integrations across legacy and modern platforms using Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
• Align business, delivery, architecture and infrastructure and operations stakeholders from project initiation through production.
• Govern solution quality by documenting decisions, applying architecture standards and presenting designs to the architecture board.
• Shape short-term, medium-term and long-term technology evolution while identifying practical opportunities for innovation.

Your profile

Essential skills

• Bring 2 to 5 years of experience as a Solution Architect and Functional Designer, covering analysis, design and delivery.
• Apply Domain-Driven Design (DDD) concepts and asynchronous integrations to define clear service and domain boundaries.
• Translate complex business requirements into practical end-to-end solutions and communicate options to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Synthesise large volumes of information, identify dependencies and make architecture decisions grounded in maintainability and cost.
• Work in a solution-oriented, creative and flexible way when requirements or constraints change.
• Show a genuine interest in technological innovation and challenge established approaches constructively.

Preferred skills

• Experience in the life insurance domain.
• Familiarity with ArchiMate for architecture modelling and documentation.
• Practical exposure to .NET and Angular environments.
• Understanding of COBOL and Micro Focus application landscapes.

Languages

• English: C1, fluent in speaking, reading and writing.
• Dutch: C1 preferred, with A2 basic capability in speaking, reading and writing.
• French: C1 preferred, with A2 basic capability in speaking, reading and writing.
