A major Belgian bank is evolving the IT architecture behind its individual and business customer channels, including mobile, web and products exposed to third parties. This senior Banking Domain Architect role translates business needs into coherent functional, technical and application architecture, with particular focus on API design and data modelling. The scope also covers core banking domains such as cards, payments and accounts.

The mission

Within the Channels Individuals and Channels Enterprises landscape, the architecture must remain coherent, maintainable and aligned with enterprise strategy, domain blueprints and group standards. The work covers internal developments and package solutions, while accounting for technology evolution, risk, cost and delivery constraints. Architectural urbanization rules, reference architectures and clear application viewpoints provide the framework for decision-making.

Your responsibilities

• Translate business needs into documented functional, technical and application architectures that align with enterprise standards.
• Define and maintain reference architectures, domain blueprints, architectural principles and urbanization rules.
• Design data models and secure APIs that support mobile, web and third-party channel products.
• Assess project and asset architectures, and validate the implementation of architectural decisions before and after production release.
• Present architecture options, decisions and good practices to business stakeholders, IT teams and architectural committees.
• Track relevant technology developments, including cloud capabilities, and incorporate them into architecture studies where appropriate.

Your profile

Essential skills

• Bring at least 5 years of relevant experience in functional architecture, technical architecture, application architecture or enterprise architecture.
• Apply architectural modelling techniques, including ArchiMate, to communicate current and target states clearly.
• Design application architectures, data models and APIs, with attention to security, maintainability and integration.
• Understand architectural urbanization rules and use them to support simplification and coherence across systems.
• Combine architecture expertise with practical project management and delivery coordination.
• Work effectively in Scrum teams, contributing to shared sprint outcomes and continuous improvement.
• Communicate clearly with business and IT stakeholders, and negotiate practical decisions while remaining analytical, accurate and risk aware.

Preferred skills

• Experience with Enterprise Data Modelling and enterprise architecture tools such as Archi.
• Understanding of cloud architecture and cloud-based design options.
• Knowledge of the cards domain, payment services or account-related banking capabilities.

Languages

• Dutch: fluent, with notions of French, or French: fluent, with notions of Dutch.
