ATG Europe is seeking an Industrial Safety Coordinator for our Mol, Belgium location. The role centers on leading industrial safety tasks, risk analyses and ensuring compliance with European safety standards.

The candidate will engage with licensing teams and Health & Safety departments, drafting safety frameworks and coordinating on-site activities. Requirements include a MSc in Engineering, 5+ years in industrial risk analysis, and fluency in English.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in industrial risk analysis, including environmental aspects.
  • Experience with HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA and ideally LOPA.
  • Experience in complex or hazardous installations (nuclear, energy, chemical/process plants, research facilities or pilot plants).
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards (IEC 61508/IEC 61511/ISO 13849).
  • Knowledge of EU directives and regulations (ATEX, PED, Machinery, EMC, Low Voltage).
  • Experience during conceptual design/FEED phases.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills; lead and coordinate risk analyses.

Responsabilités

  • Contribute to risk analyses sessions (e.g., HAZID, FMEA) and lead coordination efforts.
  • Develop framework for industrial safety and risk analysis aligned with guidelines and client licensing teams.
  • Review design documentation for hazard minimization and compliance with safety standards.
  • Prepare deliverables such as Industrial Safety Philosophy, Hazard Mapping and Hazard Inventory.
  • Engage with Belgian legislation (CODEX, AREI/RGIE, ARAB, Royal Decrees) as applicable, and oversee on-site activities in Mol, Belgium for at least 5 of every 10 days.

Description du poste

We are looking for an Industrial Safety Coordinator on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in Mol, Belgium. The successful candidate will perform different tasks related to the industrial safety of the project.

Please be aware that this position requires regular on-site presence, with employees expected to be on-site for at least 5 of every 10 consecutive working days.

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Contribute to drafting the SMR-LFR industrial safety project initiation document for conceptual design (including milestones, work packages, resources, workplan);
  • Develop a framework and an approach for industrial and environmental safety and risk analysis, starting from available guidelines and lead-cooled fast Small Modular Reactor (SMR) nuclear safety approach, in consultation with the client’s licensing team and Health & Safety department;
  • Define a preliminary strategy for the SMR CE self-declaration, in consultation with the client’s licensing team and Health Physics department;
  • If necessary, and with support of the client’s Health Physics department, become familiar with the applicable Belgian (national and regional) legislation and regulations in the matters of Environment, Health and Safety, identify the relevant sections providing design requirements, including but not limited to:
    • CODEX;
    • AREI/RGIE;
    • ARAB;
    • Royal Decree of 07/07/1994 fixing the basic standards for the prevention against fire and explosion;
    • Belgian Royal decree of 11/03/2002: risks of chemical agents at work, Flemish VLAREM II.
  • Become familiar with the industrial hazards of the SMR installation;
  • Lead, participate in, and plan risk analyses sessions (e.g., HAZID, FMEA);
  • Keep the project stakeholders informed about the progress and outcome of the risk analyses;
  • Review design documentation for hazard minimization and compliance with the industrial safety approach and safety codes & standards (e.g. IEC-61508, IEC-62061/4, European directives: Machinery, PED, Low voltage, EMC, etc.);
  • Review the list of SMR Codes & Standards applicable for industrial safety and proposeadditions/alternatives when necessary;
  • Prepare key deliverables for conceptual design such as Industrial Safety Philosophy, HazardMapping and Hazard Inventory;
  • Define necessary requirements for the design of safety systems deriving from the industrialsafety approach and risk analyses;
  • Request and follow up the progress of ad-hoc studies in support of risk analyses if necessary.

  • Experience during conceptual design/FEED phases;
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, as the person will be expected to lead and coordinate risk-analysis activities;
  • CE marking/conformity assessment experience and safety certifications such as TÜV or NEBOSH is an asset;
  • Candidates must have or be eligible to obtain the relevant Secret level security clearance;
  • Candidates must be willing and able to carry out the activities on-site in Mol, Belgium for a minimum of 5 out of every 10 consecutive working days;
  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU;
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
