Nouvall Engineering Services BV in Antwerp requires a Functional Safety Engineer to oversee the safety lifecycle of a new process installation within a multidisciplinary project team.

You will ensure compliance with IEC 61508/61511, contribute to SIS design and verification, and coordinate with EPCm contractors, suppliers and operations for safe project delivery and handover.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation or Chemical Engineering.
• Strong experience with functional safety in chemical, petrochemical, energy, or process industries.
• Good knowledge of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
• Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems and lifecycle.
• Familiarity with HAZOP and LOPA studies.

Responsabilités

• Support and maintain the functional safety lifecycle per IEC 61508/61511.
• Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL assessment activities.
• Support SIL determination, verification and functional safety validation.
• Develop and review Safety Requirement Specifications.
• Review safety functions, interlocks, cause-and-effect matrices and shutdown philosophies.
• Review Safety Instrumented System architecture and engineering documentation.
• Assess engineering deliverables prepared by EPCm contractors, suppliers and external engineering companies.
• Ensure functional safety requirements are incorporated into vendor packages and project documentation.
• Monitor functional safety actions and coordinate their timely closure.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning and validation activities.
• Define or review proof-test, inspection and maintenance requirements for safety functions.
• Support Management of Change and assess changes from a functional safety perspective.
• Coordinate with process, E&I, automation, operations and process-safety stakeholders.
• Support the preparation of functional safety files, validation records and final handover documentation.

For our client in Antwerp, we are looking for a Functional Safety Engineer.

For a long-term industrial project, we are looking for an experienced professional to support and manage the functional safety lifecycle of a new process installation.

The role is part of a multidisciplinary project environment involving process engineering, E&I, automation, EPCm contractors, equipment suppliers and specialist engineering partners.

You will ensure that functional safety requirements are correctly defined, implemented, verified and documented throughout the engineering, construction, commissioning and handover phases.

• Support and maintain the functional safety lifecycle in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Strong experience with functional safety in the chemical, petrochemical, energy, recycling or process industry.
• Good knowledge of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
• Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems and the functional safety lifecycle.
• Experience with SIL determination, verification, validation and Safety Requirement Specifications.
• Familiarity with HAZOP and LOPA studies.
• Able to review and challenge engineering documentation produced by contractors and suppliers.
• Strong technical, analytical and documentation skills.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary project team.
• English required. Dutch is a strong advantage.
• Valid VCA-VOL certificate preferred, or willingness to obtain this before starting.
