VITO/EnergyVille is seeking an R&D Professional Power System and Grid Expert to advance grid modelling and energy market design. You will work on energy transition challenges, collaborate with DSOs/TSOs, and engage with system operators and regulators.

Proficiency in Python and strong communication in English (Dutch/French helpful) are essential. The role offers hybrid work from Genk, with opportunities to contribute to national and European projects and to grow technically and in leadership

Qualifications

• Master's degree in power engineering, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, or related field; minimum 3 years of experience.
• 3+ years of experience with DSOs, TSOs, or regulator projects.
• Strong understanding of energy transition challenges, electrification and decentralized renewable integration.
• Proficiency in Python with advanced optimization skills.
• Excellent English communication; Dutch and/or French fluency required.
• NATO security clearance is required for this position.

Responsabilités

• Lead distribution grid analytics and grid modelling activities with electricity market experts, data scientists, and software engineers.
• Translate real-world challenges into grid modelling solutions, define scenarios, assemble data, and generate insightful results.
• Bridge the gap between innovative concepts and practical implementation with real-world impact.
• Develop advanced techniques in statistical power flow, optimal power flow, and mathematical optimization.
• Engage in national and European research projects, collaborating with system operators and regulators.
• Communicate findings through clear reports, scientific papers, and presentations.
• Expand the team's expertise by building a network in the energy domain.
• Support acquisition of new research and innovation projects, including proposal writing.
