Black Pen Recruitment presents an opportunity for a Front End Developer (Drupal) fluent in English to join our client in Brussels, Belgium. The role involves integration with the development team on site at a major client site, delivering responsive Drupal front-end components.

You will work with HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Twig templates, and REST integration, ensuring accessibility (WCAG) and compatibility across devices and email templates where relevant.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in IT or related discipline with extensive IT experience.
• ≥10 years HTML/CSS and ≥5 years in JavaScript and Drupal theming.
• Proficient with Drupal 8/9/10, Twig, and REST data integration.
• Experience with component libraries, i18n, and accessibility (WCAG).
• Strong Git, Jira/Confluence usage; Docker experience helpful.
• Familiar with Agile/Scrum workflows and modern front-end tools.

Responsabilités

• Develop responsive layouts using HTML5, CSS3/SASS and JavaScript.
• Build and maintain Twig templates for Drupal templates.
• Develop CKEditor components and integrate REST/JSON endpoints.
• Translate business requirements into UX/UI concepts.
• Create mockups/wireframes with Figma or Adobe XD; ensure WCAG compliance.
• Collaborate with teams via GitHub/GitLab in an Agile/Scrum environment.

They are a renowned supplier of IT services to government institutions, multinational corporations, public administrations and multinational companies, research and academic institutes.

Role Overview

Our client has a vacancy for a Front End Developer (Drupal) fluent in English, to offer his/her services as an expert who will be based in Brussels, Belgium. The work will be carried out either in the company’s premises or on site at customer premises. In the context of the first assignment, the successful candidate will be integrated in the Development team of the company that will closely cooperate with a major client’s IT team on site.

Requirements

• Master degree in IT or relevant discipline, combined with minimum 13 years of relevant working experience in IT
• At least 10 years of specific expertise in HTML/CSS
• At least 5 years of specific expertise in JavaScript and associated libraries (jQuery, Ajax, Json, Gsap)
• At least 5 years of specific expertise in Drupal theming
• Proven experience with Drupal 8/9/10
• Expertise in Drupal theming, Twig templates, and front-end integration of custom modules
• Experience working with components and component libraries, including integrating components into Drupal templates
• Understanding of multilingual setups and internationalization (i18n) for global projects
• Excellent knowledge of Javascript, jQuery, JSON, AJAX
• Skilled in HTML5, CSS3, SASS
• Familiarity with modern front-end tools (Webpack, npm, etc.)
• Experience developing and maintaining responsive newsletter templates (including compatibility testing across major email clients) is considered an asset
• Ability to produce mockups, wireframes, or design prototypes using tools such as Figma or Adobe XD
• Understanding of design principles/best practices and constraints such as the Europa Component Library
• Ability to transfer wireframes into functional interfaces
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG)
• Experience using Git and collaborative tools like GitHub or GitLab
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum workflows and tools like JIRA, Confluence
• Familiarity with Docker or other containerization tools
• Strong debugging skills in Drupal environments
• Familiarity with browser developer tools and performance optimization
• Excellent command of the English language
