Job summary

Mediahuis nv is seeking a Freelance AI Native Engineer to build and operate our internal AI platform. You’ll develop secure, scalable services that connect AI models, tools and workflows across our organization, with a strong focus on identity, governance and automation.

You’ll implement distributed Go-based services, integrate language models and external tools via the MCP, and ensure authentication and governance are embedded throughout the platform.

Qualifications

• Experience as a medior or senior engineer in backend and distributed systems.
• Proficiency with Go (Golang) and modern deployment practices.
• Knowledge of OAuth2, OIDC, secrets management and audit logging.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the internal AI platform with Go-based distributed services.
• Build secure AI integrations, connecting LLM providers and external tools via MCP.
• Implement identity, security and governance mechanisms across the platform (OAuth2, OIDC, audit logging).
• Enable self-service capabilities for internal teams to connect their tools, workflows and AI agents.

As a Freelance AI Native Engineer you’ll help shape the technological foundation that enables Mediahuis teams to use AI securely and efficiently . You’ll build distributed services, integrate language models and external tools, and ensure that identity , security and governance are embedded throughout the platform. Your work will directly contribute to making AI accessible , reliable and scalable across Mediahuis.

Developing and maintaining our AI platform , primarily using Go, with a focus on distributed services, event- driven architecture and message-based communication .

Building secure AI integrations , connecting LLM providers , self-hosted models and external tools through APIs and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Implementing identity and governance mechanisms , including OAuth2, OIDC, secrets management, audit logging and policy- based access controls .

Enabling self-service capabilities , allowing internal teams to connect their own tools, workflows and AI agents without requiring direct intervention from the platform team.

Managing deployments and platform operations , including Linux containers, configuration management, release processes , monitoring and rollback procedures.

Contributing to architecture and technical decisions , documenting designs and decisions through Architecture Decision Records ( ADRs ) and ensuring consistent engineering standards .

Collaborating with internal stakeholders , integrating the platform with workflow automation , desktop assistants and other business applications .

You'll work in a hybrid setup, with at least two days per week at our Antwerp office , collaborating closely with colleagues across Mediahuis.

What makes you a great fit?

What's on your CV, is important but is by no means the only thing we attach importance to . You're a medior or senior engineer with solid experience in backend development and distributed systems, preferably using Go ( Golang ) . You understand how event- driven architectures and message-based services operate in production and have experience with authentication and security technologies such as OAuth2, OIDC, token management and encryption . You're familiar with Linux environments, containers and modern deployment practices . Ideally , you've already worked with LLM APIs , tool calling , streaming or MCP integrations . You enjoy translating technical designs into reliable production solutions , documenting architectural decisions and taking ownership of your work from design to delivery. You're analytical , structured and comfortable working in a small, autonomous engineering team. You communicate effectively in both Dutch and English.

Experience with GPU- based model serving , workflow automation , observability , audit pipelines or platform engineering is considered an additional asset.
