Pauwels Consulting is seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer for a federally mandated role in Brussels. You will monitor GDPR compliance, advise on data protection for strategic digital initiatives, and oversee the processing activities register.

You will coordinate DPIAs and manage breach reporting to the Data Protection Authority. The ideal candidate has 8+ years in GDPR, 5+ years in policy development, and strong ability to communicate legal requirements to non-legal stakeholders.

Our client, a prominent federal public organization, is seeking an experienced professional to fulfill the legally mandated role of Data Protection Officer. The project involves acting as an independent authority to monitor compliance with privacy regulations and provide strategic advice to executive leadership.

• Monitor compliance with GDPR, privacy legislation, and internal data protection policies.
• Advise management and technical teams on data protection obligations for strategic digital initiatives.
• Oversee the maintenance and documentation of the organization's processing activities register.
• Coordinate and validate Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) for new or modified data processing operations.
• Evaluate and manage the reporting of personal data breaches to the Data Protection Authority (GBA).
• Develop and implement data protection policies, guidelines, and accountability procedures.

• You bring 8+ years of expertise in GDPR, personal data protection principles, and the legal analysis of processing agreements.
• You possess 5+ years of experience in the development and implementation of data protection policies and control frameworks.
• You have 5+ years of experience applying risk analysis methodologies and DPIA models.
• You bring 4+ years of technical knowledge regarding secure data exchange protocols within public sector environments.
• You possess at least three professional references from previous DPO assignments in large-scale organizations.
• You are proactive, analytical, and possess the ability to communicate complex legal requirements to non-legal stakeholders.
• You are native in Dutch or French with fluency in the other language and active knowledge of English.

Nice to Haves

• Knowledge of NIS2 and Cyfun.
• Experience working within a public sector or government organization.
