Tractebel, part of the ENGIE Group, is seeking an Engineer Cost Estimation and Risk Management to contribute to CAPEX estimation and risk management for major gas and nuclear projects.

You will develop robust, traceable estimates, validate assumptions with stakeholders, and improve internal processes and tools while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in science, industrial engineering, civil engineering or equivalent technical discipline.

Responsabilités

  • Prepare CAPEX estimate reports in accordance with internal standards and AACE recommendations.
  • Maintain risk registers for large-scale gas/nuclear projects and collect data from technical disciplines.
  • Quantify contingencies and perform probabilistic analyses as needed.
  • Draft plans, methodologies and presentation material for estimates.

Engineer Cost Estimation and Risk Management

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, and with the support of project teams, the PMO and internal experts, you will progressively contribute to risk management and capital cost estimation (CAPEX) activities for major industrial projects, mainly in the gas and/or nuclear sectors. You will support the preparation of robust, traceable and well-documented estimates in line with internal guidelines, contractual requirements and international best practices, in particular those promoted by AACE International. You will also contribute to the identification, assessment and quantification of project risks, working closely with project teams, technical disciplines, clients and, where relevant, potential suppliers and subcontractors.
You will also play an active role in developing or improving existing internal methods so that they remain aligned with project needs. In-depth expertise in all the areas listed below is not expected from day one. Learning agility, autonomy, curiosity and a proactive mindset will be key success factors.

Your key responsibilities

The responsibilities below will be taken on progressively:

  • Prepare CAPEX estimate reports in accordance with internal standards, project requirements and AACE International estimate classification recommendations.
  • Prepare, structure and maintain risk registers for large-scale gas, nuclear and/or other complex industrial projects.Collect, consolidate and challenge cost, quantity and risk data from the technical disciplines involved in the project.Benchmark estimates against historical data, internal or external references and, where appropriate, independent estimates.
  • Review and validate estimates with technical stakeholders to ensure consistency of quantities, assumptions, direct and indirect costs, owner’s costs, financing assumptions and indexation effects.
  • Quantify contingencies and risk provisions using probabilistic methods, including Monte Carlo simulation where relevant.
  • Draft estimate plans, methodology notes, estimate reports and related presentation material.
  • Respond to client questions and provide clear clarifications on assumptions, methods, results and uncertainty ranges.
  • Share internal best practices related to cost estimation and risk management with project teams.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, tools, templates and databases used for cost estimation and risk management.
  • Capitalise key cost, quantity, assumption and risk data to strengthen company reference databases and improve the traceability of future estimates.
We would love to hear from people with
  • Educational background: Master’s degree in science, industrial engineering, civil engineering or an equivalent technical discipline. A specialisation in cost estimation, risk management or project management would be an asset, but can also be further developed on the job.
  • Minimum expected experience: approximately five years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: cost estimation, preparation of quotations or tenders, risk management or management of major industrial projects. Full experience across all these areas is not required at the start of the assignment.
  • Solid initial experience in cost estimation, tender preparation, quotation development or risk management for large industrial projects, ideally within a gas, nuclear, EPC or EPCM environment.
  • Good understanding of project management, planning, cost control and risk management principles.
  • Ability to interface effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Autonomy, strong organisational skills and the ability to navigate complex project environments while progressively structuring the approach.
  • Critical thinking, curiosity, proactive attitude and willingness to improve cost estimation and risk management processes, methods and tools.
  • Positive mindset, strong team spirit, clear communication and collaborative attitude with project teams, technical disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, rigour in handling numerical data and particular attention to the quality of assumptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, seek appropriate support and build expertise through exposure to projects, tools and internal experts.
  • Tools proficiency: good command of the Microsoft Office suite, with solid Excel skills expected. Knowledge of ASPEN Economic Evaluation, Power BI, MS Project, @Risk or equivalent tools would be an asset. Training or progressive upskilling can be organised depending on project needs.
  • Preferred sector experience: gas, nuclear or other major industrial projects involving high technical, contractual and financial complexity. Such experience is preferred but not mandatory, provided the candidate demonstrates strong learning agility and a sound understanding of complex project environments.
  • Additional assets: knowledge of AACE International recommended practices, practical experience with probabilistic methods such as Monte Carlo simulation, exposure to cost databases, benchmarks or independent estimates, and experience on international EPC/EPCM projects.
  • Languages: professional proficiency in English. Proficiency in French would be an asset depending on location and project requirements.
