Job summary

Veolia Water Technologies is seeking an EHS Specialist to champion safety, health and environmental practices across the Benelux region from our site in Tienen, Belgium. You will act as the official EHS representative, supporting projects and service activities with a strong focus on ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and VCA compliance.

• Solid experience in a similar EHS role in industrial/service environment.
• In-depth knowledge of Netherlands EHS legislation.
• Fluency in Dutch and English; French is a strong asset.
• Experience with ISO 45001 or VCA EHS management systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving and solution-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

• Drive world-class EHS culture and maintain ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and VCA alignment.
• Provide EHS support for water treatment projects from design to commissioning.
• Lead safety events: risk assessments, safety walks, incident investigations.

As our new EHS Specialist, you will be the cornerstone of our safety culture for various activities across the Benelux. You will act as the official EHS representative while providing expert support to water treatment projects and service activities throughout the region.

Reporting to the EHS Manager Benelux, you will join a collaborative and dynamic EHS team dedicated to continuous improvement. This is a role with significant autonomy, variety, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact

What does the day-to-day look like?

Leadership & Management Systems:

• Lead by example to drive a world-class EHS culture and help meet safety objectives.
• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve our management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, VCA)
• Ensure alignment with Veolia's internal framework.
• Drive the practical implementation of EHS policies, strategies, and legal requirements on the ground.

Operational & Project Support:

• Provide expert EHS advice for new water treatment projects, from design to commissioning (e.g., HAZOP, RAMS, safety by design, site safety plans).
• Act as the EHS point of contact for our service activities, supporting operational teams in the field.
• Lead key safety events such as risk assessments, safety walks, incident investigations, and kick-off meetings.
• Respond effectively to customer EHS requirements and audits.

Training & Communication:

• Develop and deliver targeted EHS training to operational teams in your areas of expertise.
• Manage the EHS training program, from maintaining the catalogue to tracking employee progress.
• Ensure clear and engaging communication on all EHS matters across the organization.

Compliance & Administration:

• Monitor compliance with Dutch/Belgian EHS legislation and company procedures.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify root causes and prevent reoccurrence.
• Manage and maintain our online EHS reporting tools, ensuring data is accurate and up-to-date.
• Oversee the management of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), from selection to catalogue updates.

What You'll Bring to the Team

Required Qualifications

• Solid experience in a similar EHS role, preferably in an industrial or service-oriented environment.
• In-depth knowledge of Netherlands EHS legislation.
• Fluency in Dutch and English is essential. Proficiency in French would be a strong asset.
• Proven experience with EHS management systems like ISO 45001 and/or VCA.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a creative, solution-oriented approach.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with project safety methodologies (RAMS, HAZOP, safety by design, PSSR).
• Experience as a trainer or in delivering professional training.
• Experience working in a multinational corporate environment.
