imec is seeking an experienced Department Director for Semiconductor Materials Characterization & Analysis at its Leuven headquarters. You will lead world-class capabilities in microscopy, metrology, and failure analysis to translate breakthrough research into global impact.

The role requires 15+ years in semiconductor R&D, a PhD, and a proven record of strategic leadership, stakeholder alignment, and delivering high-impact results in a dynamic, technology-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Hold a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in semiconductor R&D, characterization, materials analysis, metrology, or related domain.
• Proven track record leading large technical or scientific organizations and delivering results.

Responsabilités

• Define and execute the strategic vision for imec's characterization and analysis organization.
• Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, laboratory specialists and managers.
• Develop talent through coaching and feedback to grow and perform at high potential.
• Foster continuous improvement, safety, quality, and collaboration across the unit.
• Drive innovation in materials characterization, metrology and failure analysis methodologies.
• Balance scientific excellence with operational performance, ensuring productivity and customer focus.
• Manage budgets, investments, and technology roadmaps.
• Represent imec externally and build global partnerships across academia and industry.
