EdgeConneX is seeking an experienced Director of EU Policy & Regulatory Affairs based in Amsterdam or Brussels. You will monitor, analyze, and advocate on EU and national legislation affecting data center development, construction, operations, and power procurement across Europe, translating complex policy into clear, actionable intelligence for leadership.

About The Role

• This role reports to our Global Head, Public Policy and Affairs, and will be based in either Amsterdam or Brussels
• The charter of this role is ensuring that the policy and regulatory workload across EdgeConneX's European operation receives the sustained, hands-on attention it requires. The full scope of responsibilities and geographical coverage will develop over time in line with the growth of the 10-market European project portfolio

What You’ll Do

• EU and National Policy Monitoring and Analysis: Track, analyze, and report on emerging EU and national legislation and regulation impacting data center development, construction, operations, and power procurement across EdgeConneX's European markets. Determine what matters, prioritize accordingly, and translate complex regulatory developments into clear, actionable intelligence for internal teams and senior leadership.
• Strategic Policy Advocacy: Develop and execute EU and national policy strategies that align with business priorities, to support data center development, construction, and operations, and to ensure access to power and permits. Represent EdgeConneX in policy committees and working groups within national data center trade associations across Europe, taking an active role in shaping industry positions and ensuring the company's voice is heard in collective advocacy.
• Regulatory Engagement: Build working relationships and execute engagement strategies with key lawmakers, policymakers, regulators, and staff at both national and EU institutional level. Represent the company before the European Commission, European Parliament, national ministries, energy regulators, and other relevant entities as required.
• Coalition Building and Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the company in relevant EU and national industry coalitions and trade associations to advocate for data center interests and influence positive outcomes in all forums. Manage outside advisors to execute on needed policy, legislative, and operational actions to support the company's objectives.
• Cross-Functional Alignment: Work with Development, Energy Procurement, Engineering, Public Affairs, Marketing and Communications, Sustainability, Legal, and other internal teams to align policy strategy with business objectives and assess the impact of regulatory developments on internal departments and operations. Work closely with the Sustainability team to track and respond to relevant policy developments on energy transition, carbon reporting, water use, and other ESG-related regulatory requirements.
• Thought Leadership, Messaging, and Communication: Prepare policy briefs, regulatory horizon scans, white papers, talking points, and other materials for internal teams or senior leadership. Prepare materials for external engagements to educate policymakers and other stakeholders on the role of data centers and AI infrastructure in the digital economy.
• Project-Level Public Affairs Support: Provide targeted hands-on support to the Director, Policy and Regulatory Affairs, EU on public affairs activities related to specific development projects across the European portfolio, including stakeholder mapping, briefing preparation, meeting support, and coordination of external PA consultants across multiple markets.
• Manage: Manage and coordinate outside counsel and consultants across European markets.
• Travel: Regular travel across Europe is required. The nature of the role demands in-person presence at trade association meetings, government engagements, and project-level public affairs activities across multiple markets.

Qualifications

• Experience: 7 to 10 years of experience in EU policy, public affairs, regulatory affairs, or government relations, ideally with exposure to energy, digital infrastructure, technology, or industrial sectors.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong command of EU legislative processes and institutional dynamics, with a practical understanding of how national politics interact with the Brussels agenda.
• Policy Expertise: Familiarity with key EU policy files including the Energy Efficiency Directive, AI Act, Data Act, European Green Deal, and national permitting and grid access frameworks.
• Communication Skills: Proven ability to translate complex regulatory developments into clear, concise, and actionable outputs for a business audience.
• Education: Master's or Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Law, European Studies, Public Policy, or a related field.
• Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills both verbal and written, hands-on execution mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently in a matrixed, multi-market environment.
