Job summary

Digital Systems Engineer – Satellite Communications & Payload Systems – Belgium

An innovative aerospace and satellite technology company is seeking a Digital Systems Engineer to act as the technical lead and primary point of contact for the satellite payload link system.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of digital communications, RF systems engineering and satellite payload development.

You will take ownership of technical requirements and interfaces, coordinate internal engineering teams and external suppliers, and oversee the development process through system integration and testing.

What you'll do as a Digital Systems Engineer:

• Act as the technical lead and primary point of contact for the satellite payload link system.
• Coordinate internal engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure effective technical delivery.
• Own and manage system requirements, ensuring they are clearly defined, documented and flowed down to relevant teams and suppliers.
• Contribute to digital communications design, including modulation, channel coding and spectral efficiency.
• Support link budget analysis
• Assess RF chain performance
• Coordinate integration and test activities, ensuring technical requirements and interfaces are properly verified.

What you'll bring as a Digital Systems Engineer:

• Strong understanding of digital communications principles, including modulation, coding and spectral efficiency.
• Knowledge of satellite communications link budgets, including G/T, EIRP, C/N and rain attenuation.
• Working knowledge of RF signal chains, including frequency conversion, local oscillators and phase noise.
• Experience defining, documenting and managing technical requirements and system interfaces.
• A practical, hands-on approach to engineering, with strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with space systems, satellite payloads or telecommunications satellites.
• Experience with high-speed data converters or FPGA-based digital architectures.
• 5G NTN experience
• Practical laboratory experience using RF test equipment, such as spectrum analysers.
• Experience using Python or MATLAB for engineering analysis and performance evaluation.
