Job summary

Daikin Europe NV is seeking a Development Engineer for its EMEA Development Centre in Ghent. You will work on structural development of heat pumps, refrigeration and ventilation products, collaborating with a specialised design team to design and validate full unit assemblies.

You will define mechanical specifications, ensure legal and quality compliance, and work with sales, procurement, and production to align with global planning. Travel to Ostend is expected for collaboration.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electromechanical or similar).
• Strong teamwork and communication in an international context.
• Interest in HVACR technologies and sustainability goals.

Responsibilities

• Design and validate the full unit assembly for heat pumps, refrigeration and ventilation products.
• Define mechanical specifications in line with sales requests, regulations and manufacturing constraints.
• Develop mechanical design with 3D designers to meet product specs.
• Ensure compliance through documentation, calculations or testing with the Compliance dept.
• Determine tests to perform and analyse results for product validation.
• Execute structural simulations to pre-empt testing issues and optimize topology.

DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

A. DEPARTMENT

As EMEA Development Centre (EDC), we develop air‑conditioning, heating,refrigerationand ventilation products as well as controls and IOT solutions. These are produced in different factorieslocatedwithin and outside Europe. The products are put on the market through our various Daikin distributors and affiliates within Europe, MiddleEastand Africa.

The EMEA development centre headquarter is located in Ostend and Ghent. The vacant position is located in Ghent office and travel to Ostend office is expected when collaborating with the team in Ostend

B. ROLE

As a Structural Development Engineer within our EMEA Development Centre, you will be involved in the various aspects of the structural development of heat pumps, refrigeration systems, commercial airconditioningand ventilation products.

In collaboration with a specialised designer team, you will design and validate the full unit assembly; this contains selection of refrigerant components (filters/piping/compressors/…) , judging component assembly and optimising the topology in a casing. You will also take into account the quality (resistance, strength, sound, vibration…), legal compliance, cost, manufacturability, sales and timing requirements.

Define the mechanical specifications of the products in accordance with sales request, relevant regulations, quality standards and manufacturing constraints.

Development of the mechanical design (part selection, assembly) in order to reach the required product specifications in collaboration with a team of specialized 3D designers.

Ensure the products meet all legal/internal requirements, verify by documentation, calculation or testing and align with Compliance department.

Determine which tests and evaluations the products must undergo and analyse the test results.

Determine and execute relevant structural simulations to frontload or solve issues linked to the testing of the unit.

Determine your own work‑plan autonomously while taking the global planning within and outside EDC into account.

Discuss your interim results with the management, make diagnoses and ensure the setting up and implementation of action plans to identify and avoid bottlenecks.

Equally important is your role as contact person between EDC and other departments such as Sales, Procurement, Quality and Production, whereby you will acquire a good insight to the whole Daikin production process.

C. PROFILE

You have aMaster’s degree in engineering, for example in mechanical engineering, electromechanics or similar.
