EPSA in Belgium seeks a proactive energy data analyst (energy geek) to support grid studies, data infrastructure, and simulations using ANTARES. The role combines data collection, tool development, and scenario analysis to inform energy transition projects in BE and EU contexts.
You will work with the team on data mining, processing in VBA/Excel, R/Python, and visualization; you will challenge projections and help build robust data pipelines for hourly dispatch studies.
On top of the development of the grid, asset and system management and market facilitation above mentioned, the TSO in Belgium is also responsible to conduct several security of supply studies (short, medium and long term), vision studies, cost benefit analysis of future grid projects,... Those studies are based on economic dispatch tools, which evaluate the need for additional generation capacity, the economic outputs or the margin available in the system for every hour of the year.
This assignment requires a knowledge of energy sector in Belgium and in Europe (i.e. main policies and targets), especially in the electricity sector. The consultant will support the team in building future energy scenarios (e.g. trajectories for future electricity demand in Belgium and in Europe, looking at EV, HP and industry projection; trajectories for supply side with thermal and RES production; …). This leads to a very high amount of data collection and consolidation from different sources, tools creation and review, slide/figure creations,… Previous experience in market simulations is a plus (for instance, using an economic dispatch tool like ANTARES)
.
Our client is therefore looking for a pro-active, “energy geek” and “data geek”. We are looking for a medior profile with proficient coding skills but mainly with strong interest and knowledge in the energy sector, that is interested by the energy transition and that will help the team getting the right data infrastructure and tools as well as support in performing and analyzing the appropriate simulations to deliver state-of-the-art studies needed to plan the energy transition. We’re looking for someone who will always questioned the scenarios data, someone able and willing to challenge projections (concerning evolution of PV, wind, H2 thermal units,…) for BE or other EU main countries, able and willing to estimate if those are rather ambitious or realistic,…
