Résumé du poste

ATCON GLOBAL is seeking a Data Analyst for a leading European Transmission System Operator to support long-term security of supply studies and energy scenario modelling in Belgium and Europe.

You will build data pipelines, develop analytical tools in Python and R, and create visualisations with Power BI and QGIS to inform future grid developments. A strong data mindset and knowledge of energy markets are essential.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience (medior level).
  • Strong programming skills in Python or R (experience with both is a plus).
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Experience with data analysis, data mining, data gathering, processing and visualization.
  • Knowledge of, or a strong interest in, the Belgian and European energy market.
  • Genuine interest in the energy transition and future energy systems.
  • Ability to critically challenge data, assumptions and projections rather than simply processing them.
  • Analytical, proactive and innovative mindset.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Fluent in Dutch and/or French, with good English.

Responsabilités

  • Support the development of future energy scenarios for Belgium and Europe.
  • Build scenarios covering future electricity demand, EVs, heat pumps, industrial demand, RES, thermal generation, flexibility and storage.
  • Collect, consolidate and validate large volumes of historical and projected energy data from multiple sources.
  • Gather projection data from European countries and assess whether assumptions are realistic and aligned with defined energy scenarios.
  • Develop, improve and maintain data collection, data management and scenario-building processes.
  • Create and maintain datasets used by electricity market modelling tools.
  • Support model building and perform quality checks on datasets and models.
  • Assess the impact of modelling assumptions, including demand, renewable production, flexibility and storage.
  • Develop and improve tools in Python, R, Excel and VBA.
  • Create visualisations and analyse simulation outputs using Power BI, R or QGIS.
  • Analyse algorithm results, identify trends and support interpretation of simulation outcomes.
  • Support data engineering activities and interfaces between different tools and systems.
  • Contribute to improving the team's analytical tools and overall way of working.

Description du poste

Our client is a leading European Transmission System Operator (TSO) responsible for ensuring a reliable, sustainable and secure electricity supply. Within the organisation, the Scenarios, Market & Adequacy Analysis team is responsible for conducting long‑term security of supply studies, energy vision studies and cost‑benefit analyses for future Grid developments. These studies rely on advanced electricity market modelling and simulation tools to assess future electricity demand, generation capacity and overall system adequacy.

As a Data Analyst, you will support the SMA team in developing future energy scenarios and the modelling frameworks used to study Belgium's and Europe's future electricity system.

This is a highly analytical role combining data analysis, programming and energy market expertise. You'll help build and validate datasets, develop analytical tools, improve data processes and support electricity market simulations used to plan the energy transition.

The client is looking for someone who is both an "energy geek" and a "data geek"—someone who enjoys working with data but is equally interested in understanding how the future electricity system will evolve.

Your responsibilities
  • Support the development of future energy scenarios for Belgium and Europe.
  • Build scenarios covering future electricity demand, electric vehicles (Ev), heat pumps (HP), industrial demand, renewable energy sources (RES), thermal generation, flexibility and Storage.
  • Collect, consolidate and validate large volumes of historical and projected energy data from multiple sources.
  • Gather projection data from European countries and critically assess whether assumptions are realistic and aligned with defined energy scenarios.
  • Develop, improve and maintain data collection, data management and scenario‑building processes.
  • Create visualisations and analyse simulation outputs using tools such as Power BI, R or QGIS.
  • Analyse algorithm results, identify trends and support interpretation of simulation outcomes.
  • Support data engineering activities and interfaces between different tools and systems.
  • Contribute to improving the team's analytical tools and overall way of working.
What we're looking for
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (medior level).
Nice to have
  • VBA.
  • Experience with ANTARES or another electricity market simulation/economic dispatch tool.
  • Experience with electricity market simulations.
  • Experience with Power BI and/or QGIS.
  • Data engineering experience.
Technical environment
  • Python
  • R
  • Excel
  • VBA
  • Power BI
  • QGIS
  • ANTARES (nice to have)
Who you are

You're passionate about the energy transition and motivated to contribute to the planning of tomorrow's electricity system. You enjoy working with complex datasets, building robust analytical tools and questioning assumptions to produce high‑quality insights. You're looking for an assignment where you can deepen your expertise in energy scenario modelling while contributing to projects with real impact on Belgium's and Europe's future energy landscape.
