Cancer Patients Europe (CPE) in Brussels is seeking a Communications Intern to support institutional and project communications. The role is full-time with the possibility of some teleworking, and will work closely with the CPE Team to raise visibility of cancer patient priorities at the European level.

The Organisation

Cancer Patients Europe (CPE) is a pan-European and pan-cancer type association based in Brussels. It was established to represent and empower the voices of cancer patients and cancer survivors, with the vision to reduce the burden of cancer on patients, carers, survivors, healthcare systems, and society.

The Position

CPE is recruiting a Communication Intern for the Communication activities of the association, including institutional and project-related communication. The Communication Intern will work full-time with the possibility of some teleworking, in close cooperation with the CPE Team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to increasing CPE’s visibility and to raise awareness on cancer patient priorities at the European level.

Main Activities
Key responsibilities
  • To create communication content for dissemination across various platforms in line with to the association’s activities, in close collaboration with the CPE Team;
  • To support the day-to-day management of the association’s social media platforms, including planning, scheduling, and publishing content for specific projects & campaigns;
  • To maintain and regularly update website content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and consistency;
  • To draft and coordinate the monthly CPE newsletter, ensuring timely and effective communication with stakeholders.;
  • To draft the CPE activity report.
  • To actively contribute to the communication and visibility of EU-funded projects, by developing communication materials, supporting dissemination activities, and assisting with reporting in line with project requirements.

All tasks will be conducted in close cooperation with the CPE Team.

Education and skills
  • Degree in Communications/Journalism or a related field; knowledge or experience in health-related communication is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to plan workload effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the major social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, Facebook) and an understanding of their communication best practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant graphic tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent)
  • Fluency in English (oral and written), with proficiency in other EU languages considered an asset.
  • Own initiative, creativity, and energy are strongly encouraged.
Teamwork
  • Proactive approach, collegiality, readiness to offer a helping hand in various tasks, sociable mature personality able to relate with peers and high-level officials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in both team and independent environments.
  • Willingness and availability to work remotely and to undertake business travel.
  • Ability to work in an international, multicultural and multilingual working environment.
Communication
  • Outstanding written and verbal skills in English (English fluency is mandatory) and attention to detail and numeracy.
  • Experience in managing social media channels, developing engaging content, and supporting digital communication campaigns .
  • Ability to tailor communication materials to different audiences across a variety of digital and print platforms
Experience
  • Previous experience in communications within the non-profit, healthcare, or membership association sector is considered an asset.
  • Experience or interest in oncology, public health, or EU-funded projects is desirable.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Mail Chimp and PowerPoint is essential.
  • Relevant prior professional experience in a similar position is desirable.
  • Experience in preparing documents, such as reports and graphs, and creating and using visual tools.
What we offer

This is a full-time intern position for one year. An internship allowance in accordance with Belgian internship regulations (Convention d’Immersion Proffesionnelle) . The possibility of progression to a long-term, full-time position, subject to performance and organisational needs. Please note that applying candidates must have the right to reside and work in Belgium/EU.
