Next-Link in Mechelen, Belgium, seeks an experienced COBOL Software Engineer to develop, test and maintain COBOL programs for the proprietary B2B application suite, focusing on invoicing, product data, pricing and customer management.

You will join a close-knit team of about 30 colleagues including software engineers, application managers and IT architects, collaborating with business and solution analysts to translate needs into reliable technical solutions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a COBOL Software Engineer.
• Hands-on with Enterprise Oracle databases.

• Fluency in Dutch and English; French is a plus.

Job Description

Our client brings together all B2B activities with independent entrepreneurs, including several supermarket chains. The applications you develop play a key role in enabling smooth and efficient collaboration with these business partners.

You will join a close-knit and experienced team of approximately 30 colleagues, including software engineers, application managers, and IT architects. You will also work closely with business and solution analysts to translate business needs into reliable technical solutions.

Core Responsibilities

• Development & Support: Develop, test, implement, and maintain COBOL programs for the proprietary B2B application suite. Key domains include invoicing, product data, pricing, and customer management.
  


• System Integration: Analyze and manage integrations between internal applications and external platforms and tools, ensuring reliable and seamless data flows.
  


• Incident Management: Investigate technical incidents, identify root causes, propose effective solutions, and follow issues through to resolution.
  


• Application Maintenance & Operations: Support the day-to-day operation of business-critical applications in collaboration with the helpdesk. This includes technical troubleshooting, priority assessment, daily system checks, process monitoring, and resolving operational issues.
  

Requirements

OS & Environment: Red Hat Linux running in a VMware virtualized environment

• Database & Integration: Enterprise Oracle 19 database integrated with ACUCOBOL 85 via EasyMap
  


• Web Services: COBOL-integrated web services developed using the Java SDK and Apache Ant, supporting HTTP/SOAP XML communication
  


• Application Hosting: IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) hosting Java-based web applications
  

3. Requirements

• Professional Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a COBOL Software Engineer. Hands-on experience with Enterprise Oracle databases is highly desirable.
