The European Money Markets Institute (EMMI) seeks a Benchmarks Officer to contribute to implementation and oversight of benchmark provisions, help maintain benchmark quality, and participate in the design of new products.

Based in Brussels, you will join the Operations Unit and report to the Head of Unit. You will help monitor EURIBOR, EFTERM, and the STEP market label, manage data analysis, governance, and reporting across European money markets.

  • Quality control of benchmarks through regular data quality checks.

  • Contribute to projects to achieve EMMI’s strategic objectives.
  • Draft reports on EURIBOR and EFTERM developments; monitor and analyze benchmark methodology.

The European Money Markets Institute is seeking to recruit a Benchmarks Officer to contribute to the implementation and oversight of benchmark provisions, help maintain benchmark quality, and participate in the design and development of new products.

The position is permanent, full-time and based in Brussels.

You will be part of EMMI’s Operations Unit and report to its Head of Unit. The Operations Unit is responsible for all activities related to the provision of EMMI’s product lines, which currently include the euro zone’s most important critical financial benchmark, EURIBOR, its fallback rate, EFTERM, and the STEP commercial paper market label.

These activities include the design and development of existing and new products, their governance and quality control, and their distribution. The Operations Unit also implements internal operational processes, oversees outsourced processes, interacts with contributing panel banks, and monitors, analyses and reports on conjunctural and structural developments in money markets, in particular in the euro area.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will contribute to:

  • Controlling, monitoring and/or implementing the daily collection, calculation and publication processes of EMMI’s benchmarks;
  • Controlling, monitoring and continuously enhancing the quality of the benchmarks, including designing and performing regular data quality checks;
  • Maintaining and developing supporting systems;
  • Identifying, designing and developing new products;
  • Contributing to projects run to achieve EMMI’s strategic objectives.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and reporting on developments in the European money markets and commercial paper markets;
  • Drafting relevant reports on EURIBOR and EFTERM developments;
  • Performing data analysis in the ongoing monitoring and scheduled review of the EURIBOR methodology;
  • Leading selected Operations Unit projects.
Qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate has:

  • A Master’s degree, or a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of relevant experience, in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Law or another relevant field;
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Experience working with large datasets;
  • Experience with programming languages such as SQL, R or Python;
  • Experience using visualisation tools such as Tableau;
  • Excellent command of English and another EU language, both oral and written.
