Referment is hiring an experienced software engineer with a strong backend and infrastructure background to join an established product and engineering team. You’ll design robust backend services, build complex data models, and implement reliable integrations with cloud infrastructure and queues.

You will work with Product and engineers to define practical solutions, own features end-to-end, and continuously improve architecture, testing, and deployment practices.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of commercial software engineering experience with a strong backend focus.
• Experience designing and building production APIs.
• Strong understanding of relational databases and data modelling.
• Experience with transactional systems and data integrity.
• Experience building asynchronous processes and working with queues.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code.
• Awareness of testing and monitoring for resilient production systems.

Referment is working with a growing European technology company to hire an experienced Software Engineer with a strong backend and infrastructure background.

You’ll join an established product and engineering team building a business-critical software platform used to manage complex data and operational workflows.

This is predominantly a backend engineering position. You’ll work across APIs, data models, integrations and cloud infrastructure, taking ownership of features from initial design through to production.

The company is looking for product-minded engineers who care about building reliable, maintainable software but are also pragmatic enough to make sensible trade-offs and ship.

The Role

What We're Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced software engineer with around 4+ years' commercial engineering experience and a strong backend focus.

You’ll Ideally Have

• Strong backend software engineering experience.
• Experience designing and building production APIs.
• Strong understanding of relational databases and data modelling.
• Experience working with transactional systems and data integrity.
• Experience building asynchronous processes and working with queues.
• Experience integrating complex third-party or legacy systems.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure.
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code and modern deployment practices.
• A good understanding of testing, monitoring and building resilient production systems.
• The ability to make pragmatic technical decisions and balance engineering quality with speed of delivery.
• Strong product instincts and an interest in understanding the problem behind what you’re building.
• The ability to work autonomously and take ownership of significant technical problems.

Experience with TypeScript/Node.js, PostgreSQL, Azure, Terraform or Windows-based infrastructure would be useful, although exact technology experience is less important than strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn.

This could suit a Senior Software Engineer, Backend Engineer, Backend Software Engineer or Product Engineer looking for greater ownership within a growing technology company.
