Job summary

Ibexa in Louvain-la-Neuve is seeking a Backend Engineer for the Channel Team responsible for all messaging channels. You will work in a collaborative Scrum setup with PMs and UX designers, shaping architecture, development, and scaling of our communication services.

The role emphasizes modern backend engineering, AI-assisted coding with Claude, and cloud-native technologies, with experience in Java/Spring, Kafka, and CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in Java and Spring, designing high-performance APIs (OpenAPI/REST).
• Experience with Kafka, MySQL, MongoDB, Tomcat, Nginx; building scalable event-driven systems.
• Kubernetes experience and containerization is a plus.
• Mobile/multichannel know-how with push notifications, SMS/email deliverability, and in-app messaging workflows.
• Able to work with PMs/UX designers, balancing technical quality with business impact.
• AI-assisted coding with Claude or similar tools to accelerate development and testing.
• CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, Git, Maven, npm; modern DevOps practices.
• Ownership mindset and proactive system improvements.
• Fluent in French and English; information security in ISO 27001 environments.

About the job

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Channel Team based in Louvain-la-Neuve, responsible for all messaging channels. You will work in a collaborative Scrum setup with Product Managers and UX designers, directly influencing the architecture, development, and scaling of our communication services. This role also leverages AI-assisted coding with Claude to accelerate development, improve quality, and support complex backend workflows.

Skills & Experience

• Backend development: Strong experience in Java and Spring, designing and implementing high-performance APIs (OpenAPI/REST).
• Distributed systems & infrastructure: Experience with Kafka, MySQL, MongoDB, Tomcat, Nginx; building scalable, reliable event-driven systems. Experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and containerization is a plus.
• Mobile & multichannel expertise: Deep understanding of mobile platforms, push notifications, SDK integration, SMS/email deliverability, and in-app messaging workflows.
• Collaboration & product mindset: Able to work directly with PMs and UX designers, balancing technical quality with business impact.
• AI-assisted coding: Comfortable using Claude or similar AI tools to accelerate development, automate testing, generate documentation, and refactor code efficiently.
• CI/CD & tools: Experience with Jenkins, Git, Maven, npm, and modern DevOps pipelines.
• Ownership & initiative: Proactive problem solver who contributes to system improvements, performance, and code quality.
• Your are fluent in French and English.
• Having basic information security competences as well as follow secure practices and policies within an ISO 27001-certified environment.
