Harmoney, a fintech scale-up, is hiring a Backend Engineer in Gent, Belgium. You will design, build, and evolve cloud-native services powering our platform, collaborating with product and fellow engineers to shape scalable solutions from design to deployment.

You will design secure APIs, optimize backend performance, and contribute to architectural decisions while maintaining high code quality and ownership from day one.

• 3+ years building enterprise Java backend apps.
• Strong SQL and relational DB design skills.
• Experience delivering secure REST APIs and cloud-native services.

Backend Engineer

As a Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and evolve the cloud-native services that power our platform. You’ll work on complex engineering challenges, collaborate closely with Product and fellow engineers, and have the autonomy to shape scalable solutions from design through deployment.

Your impact

You’ll play a key role in building the foundation of our platform.

From designing secure APIs and scalable backend services to improving performance and code quality, you’ll help create software that thousands of professionals rely on every day. You’ll also contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, and AI-powered development workflows.

You’ll thrive in this role if you...

• Are fluent in English
• Have 3+ years of experience building enterprise applications in Java
• Have strong experience with relational databases and SQL
• Know how to design and build secure REST APIs
• Enjoy real ownership and autonomy from day one
• Enjoy solving complex technical challenges and thinking about scalability
• Are a collaborative engineer who enjoys sharing knowledge through code reviews
• Communicate clearly and enjoy working closely with teammates

Nice to have

• Fluency in Dutch is a plus
• Experience with Quarkus or similar modern Java frameworks
• Familiarity with frontend technologies such as Angular
• Experience working with cloud-native architectures or distributed systems
• Experience using AI tools to improve software development workflows
