A functional validation role within a cross-functional team, with a gradual move towards test automation.
Context and project
The position is within a public administration. It sits in a team that runs the applications used to digitise urban planning and environmental permits.
The main activity is the functional validation of changes, integrations and redesigns of these applications. The team brings together project managers, analysts, developers and business experts.
Today the work is mostly manual testing and functional validation. Test automation will grow over time, as the applications become more mature.
Responsibilities
- Quickly learn the business and the processes behind urban planning and environmental permits, to make sure test coverage fits.
- Analyse functional specifications, change requests and user needs.
- Design, document and maintain test scenarios and test cases.
- Prepare the data needed for test campaigns.
- Check that functional requirements and specifications have been implemented correctly.
- Run functional, regression and integration tests.
- Identify and document defects in Jira, and follow them up until they are resolved.
- Work with analysts, business users and developers so that everyone understands issues in the same way.
- Take part in test activities and in validating deliveries.
- Test web services with dedicated tools (SoapUI, Postman, etc.).
- Help improve quality and test processes over time.
- Gradually help set up and maintain automated tests with Playwright, once the applications are stable enough.
- Keep tests traceable and ensure the overall quality of the applications delivered.
Candidate profile
Experience
- Senior-level experience as a tester on IT projects.
- Solid experience in test automation.
Technical skills
Required
- Good knowledge of testing methods and standards (ISTQB, TMap).
- Good command of Atlassian tools (Jira, Xray, Confluence).
- Solid experience in test automation.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of permit management.
- Some experience with Playwright.
- Some experience with API testing (SOAP, REST).
- Rigour and organisation: a structured, methodical way of working, especially when documenting and tracking activities.
- Autonomy and initiative: able to work independently, take initiative and spot problems or needs early.
- Analytical mindset and continuous improvement: able to analyse problems, look back on one's own practices and suggest improvements.
- Team spirit and diplomacy: works well with many different people and communicates tactfully, including with demanding business users.
Languages
- French: full proficiency (C2), required.
Location and conditions
- Location: Namur area (Belgium).
- Hybrid work, with at least 60% of the time on site, and more if needed.
