Job summary

Imec in Leuven, Belgium, seeks a 3D and BEOL Integration Expert to strengthen the Platform Integration Group. You will contribute to diverse imec Core Program projects and internal initiatives, focusing on BEOL and 3D flows.

After a training period, you will own major platform projects, mentor colleagues, coordinate with process engineers, and help improve stability, consistency, and throughput in imec’s advanced 300mm lines.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in engineering or science.
• 7+ years of industry experience in production or technology development.
• Experience with die-to-wafer bonding, and chip interposers; BEOL copper damascene experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to BEOL/3D integration projects within the Platform Integration Group.
• Define development plans, inline characterization strategy, and data analysis.
• Mentor and share knowledge after training, taking ownership of large platform projects.
• Coordinate with process engineers, implement splits in the process flow, and manage cycle time in imec’s 300mm cleanroom.

3D and BEOL Integration Expert

What you will do

• Work in the Platform Integration Group, contributing to a diverse range of projects – such as imec Core Program projects, or imec internal projects.
• Focus on the platformisation or stabilisation of a wide range of flows within BEOL or 3D integration. The Platform Integration team is responsible to take a research process module or flow and drive improvements in consistency, stability and uniformity by applying techniques or well-known standards from industry.
• Setting up and carrying out development plans. This includes defining the design of experiment, defining the in-line characterization strategy, following-up the processing in the imec pilot line, and analyzing and discussing the incoming data.
• Define and discuss development plans and process splits with the process step development engineers, implement the splits into the process flow, and take care of the cycle time during processing in imec’s advanced 300mm cleanroom.
• Leverage industry experience to window and corner test modules, working to establish optimal settings which work across major program families which are inherently dissimilar, and have their own unique needs.
• After a period of training, you will take on ownership of a large project in the Platform domain. Your responsibilities will include mentoring and sharing knowledge with other team members.
• The final level and scope of the role will be determined based on the successful candidate's background and expertise and may range from R&D Engineer to Principal Member of Technical Staff.

Who you are

• Minimum Masters Degree in Engineering or other science based field. .
• 7+ years of industry experience in a production or technology development environment, required.
• Experience with die to wafer bonding, and chip interposers is desired. BEOL experience in Cu damascene is also considered.
• You have proven ability to take technical ownership of a complex project and can demonstrate problem solving skills.
• You like looking at data, drawing conclusions and proposing relevant follow up actions.
• Capability to manage time independently, balancing needs of multiple parallel activities.
• Ability to draw conclusions from limited data, make suggestions on how to validate assumptions and conclusions.
• Good communication is a major requirement for this job, with interactions with groups within the department, as well as with other departments and Fab Operations.
• You like taking initiative, you are persuasive and assertive, while keeping a constructive attitude.
• You have strong organizational skills and show the flexibility to change between different projects according to changing priorities.
• Given the international character of imec, excellent English verbal and written communication skills are required to be effective in this position.
• Willingness to relocate physically to Leuven, Belgium.
