Job summary

Downer Southeast Queensland water program is seeking a Zero Harm Advisor who will work predominantly in the field across project and operational sites, partnering with delivery teams, clients and contractors to proactively identify and manage risks to people and the business.

This practical, influential role provides governance, coaching and continuous improvement to strengthen health and safety performance and support environmental obligations, with office-based work supporting planning,

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent WHS qualification.
• Experience as a health and safety advisor or operational safety role, ideally within water, utilities, civil construction, infrastructure or maintenance.
• Experience with health, safety and environmental management systems and applying legislation in the field.
• Strong coaching, consultation and relationship-management skills, with a practical and collaborative approach.
• Current driver’s license and ability to travel between sites across the program area.
• Legal right to work in Australia.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct assurance activities and convert findings into practical improvements.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical Zero Harm and environmental advice to project managers, engineers, supervisors, work crews and delivery partners.
• Coach teams to understand critical risks and verify effective controls.
• Support the consistent application of legislation, Downer standards, client requirements, and Zero Harm plans.
• Provide governance and assurance through inspections, field observations and audits.
• Lead ICAM investigations and support other incident investigations.
• Develop and review Zero Harm plans, risk registers and toolbox talks.
• Record incidents, hazards, inspections and actions in systems and report trends.
• Onboard workforce and subcontractors with verifications and audits.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to ensure accountable controls.
