Job summary

Queensland Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support Cairns QLD seeks a practitioner to supervise and support young people under youth justice programs. You will engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, maintain case records and coordinate with partner agencies to deliver culturally appropriate services.

Role requires adherence to relevant legislation and departmental policies, with responsibilities including case planning, reporting, and community reintegration

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and support to young people in accordance with relevant legislative provisions and departmental policies.
• Support the Program Coordinator in maintaining services for young people subject to youth justice interventions.
• Assist with supervision and support to ensure compliance with court orders and reintegration into the community.
• Negotiate with other Government and community agencies to enhance access to services as per the case plan.
• Maintain attendance records and prepare reports to assist case planning and reviews.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and services.
• Provide guidance to colleagues on culturally appropriate services in youth justice contexts.

Queensland Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support – Cairns QLD

• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Provide supervision and support to young people in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, strategic priorities, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures and contemporary best practice.
• Support the Program Coordinator in relation to the maintenance of services for young people subject to youth justice interventions.
• Provide supervision and support to young people to assist with their compliance with court orders and reintegration into the community in accordance with the case plan.
• Negotiate with other Government and community agencies, on behalf of young people, so as to enhance their access to services in accordance with the case plan.
• Maintain records of program attendance and prepare reports to assist case planning and reviews, and attend these meetings as required.
• Develop and maintain a relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, people and services.
• Provide support and advice to colleagues on culturally appropriate services in a youth justice context.
