Job summary

Glen Eira City Council is seeking a Youth Participation and Projects Officer for the Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub. You will lead youth engagement and develop initiatives that strengthen young people's voice and inform Council decisions.

Working with schools, community groups and Council teams, you will design, deliver and evaluate projects, manage partnerships, and report on outcomes while ensuring wellbeing for young people.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Work or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Experience designing and delivering youth participation and community development initiatives.
• Ability to advocate for young people and engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong written communication skills for reports, funding applications, briefings and proposals.
• Experience managing projects, budgets and competing priorities to deliver on time.

• Advising Council staff on effective engagement of young people in planning and delivering projects.
• Coordinating youth surveys and turning insights into actions and initiatives.
• Developing and evaluating youth development projects and programs that support Council priorities.
• Building partnerships with schools, community organisations, government agencies and internal stakeholders.
• Researching emerging youth issues to inform service planning and improvement.
• Preparing reports, funding acquittals, evaluations and Council briefings.
• Contribute to daily operation and provision of service from Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub, including reception support and program delivery.

Job description

• Permanent, part time (60.8 hours per fortnight)
• $50.93 - $55.57 per hour (depending on experience) + 12% superannuation

About the team

Youth Services work from the Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub, supporting young people through school-based programs, community initiatives and youth development opportunities.

Located within a shared workspace alongside Libraries and Customer Service staff, the team operates in a busy community hub and works closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

About the role

As the Youth Participation and Project Officer, you will lead youth engagement and community development initiatives that strengthen young people's voice, influence Councils decision-making and improve wellbeing outcomes.

Working closely with young people, schools, community organisations and Council teams, you will design, deliver and evaluate projects, programs and engagement opportunities that respond to the needs and aspirations of young people across Glen Eira.

Other responsibilities include:

• Advising Council staff on effective ways to engage young people in planning and delivering projects.
• Coordinating youth surveys and turning insights into meaningful actions and initiatives.
• Developing and evaluating youth development projects and programs that support Council priorities and community needs.
• Building strong partnerships with schools, community organisations, government agencies and internal stakeholders.
• Researching emerging youth issues and trends to help inform service planning and continuous improvement.
• Preparing reports, project documentation, funding acquittals, evaluations and Council briefings.
• Contribute to the daily operation and provision of service from the Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub, including reception support and program delivery as required.

About you

You are passionate about supporting young people and helping them have a voice in their community.

You bring strong relationship-building, project management and communication skills, along with experience delivering youth programs and engagement initiatives that create positive outcomes for young people.

The following is also required:

• A qualification in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Work or a related discipline, or equivalent experience in youth services.
• Experience designing and delivering youth participation, engagement and community development initiatives.
• The ability to advocate for young people and work effectively within a team and engage with diverse community stakeholders.
• Strong written communication skills, including preparing reports, funding applications, briefings and project proposals.
• Experience managing projects, budgets and competing priorities to deliver results on time.
