Job summary

Uniting NSW.ACT's headspace Penrith is seeking a Community Development Coordinator to support young people aged 12-25 with mild to moderate mental health needs. You will build strong relationships with local schools, youth organisations and councils to deliver engaging spaces and programs for young people.

In this role you will recruit and support a Youth Advisory Committee, lead community events, promote headspace services and drive referrals from schools, GPs and self-referrals.

Qualifications

• Experience in facilitating Community Development initiatives.
• Experience engaging young people through design and delivery of activities, workshops, presentations or other.
• Ability to facilitate and coordinate community events, including setting up and transporting promotional materials.
• Passionate about youth mental health and improving health outcomes in the community.
• Experience in communication strategies including social media engagement, graphic design and promotion.
• Excellent communication and networking skills with schools, youth organisations, and health professionals.
• Knowledge of the local area and community connections is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

• Developing the annual Community Awareness and Engagement Plan for headspace Penrith through consultation with the local community, local young people, partnering services, YAC members and the headspace Team.
• Recruiting, onboarding and supporting the Youth Advisory Committee members; oversee monthly meetings and safeguarding wellbeing.
• Facilitating social spaces such as breakfast clubs, art and music activities for young people.
• Engaging with local schools and community groups to promote headspace services.
• Leading and managing group activities and events in schools and community settings.
• Promoting headspace services and driving referrals from schools, GPs, and self-referrals.
• Participating in team meetings, sharing insights from community engagement, and reporting on community trends.
• Supporting young people during community events and increasing awareness of mental health services.
