Job summary

Uniting NSW.ACT’s headspace Penrith seeks a passionate Community Development Coordinator to support young people aged 12-25 with mild to moderate mental health needs. You will build relationships with local schools, youth organisations and councils, creating engaging spaces and programs for young people.

The role offers opportunities to promote mental health awareness, coordinate events, lead the Youth Advisory Committee, and drive referrals while working within headspace's national youth mental

Qualifications

• Experience facilitating Community Development initiatives with sound knowledge of mental health.
• Experience engaging young people through design and delivery of activities, workshops, presentations or other.
• Ability to facilitate and coordinate community events, including setting up and transporting promotional materials (mileage reimbursed).
• Excellent communication and networking skills with schools, youth organisations and health professionals.
• Knowledge of the local area and community connections is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

• Developing the annual Community Awareness and Engagement Plan for headspace Penrith through consultation with the local community, local young people, partnering services, YAC members and the headspace Team.
• Recruiting, onboarding and supporting the Youth Advisory Committee members.
• Facilitating social spaces, such as running breakfast clubs, art, and music activities for young people.
• Engaging with local schools and community groups to promote headspace services.
• Leading and managing group activities and events in schools and community settings.
• Promoting headspace services, driving referrals from schools, GPs, and self-referrals.
• Participating in team meetings, sharing insights from community engagement, and reporting on trends.

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and dynamic Community Development Coordinator to join the headspace team in Penrith, supporting young people aged 12-25 with mild to moderate mental health needs. This role will allow you to build strong relationships with local schools, youth organisations, and councils while creating engaging spaces and programs for young people.

Key responsibilities include

• Developing the annual Community Awareness and Engagement Plan for headspace Penrith through consultation with the local community, local young people, partnering services, YAC members and the headspace Team.
• Recruiting, onboarding and supporting the Youth Advisory Committee members. Responsibilities include, overseeing their monthly meetings, providing ongoing opportunities for their participation and consultation, and safeguarding their wellbeing.
• Facilitating social spaces, such as running breakfast clubs, art, and music activities for young people.
• Engaging with local schools and community groups to promote headspace services.
• Leading and managing group activities and events in schools and community settings.
• Promoting headspace services, driving referrals from various sources such as schools, GPs, and self-referrals.
• Participating in team meetings, sharing insights from community engagement, and reporting on community trends.
• Supporting young people during community events and increasing awareness of mental health services

• Experience in facilitating Community Development initiatives, with sound knowledge of mental health.
• Experience engaging young people through design and delivery of activities, workshops, presentations or other.
• Ability to facilitate and coordinate community events, including setting up and transporting promotional materials (mileage reimbursed). Passionate about youth mental health and improving health outcomes in the community
• Some experience in communication strategies including social media engagement, graphic design and promotion.
• Excellent communication and networking skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including schools, youth organisations, and health professionals.
• Knowledge of the local area and community connections is a strong advantage.

Qualifications

• A minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health or Community Services or tertiary qualifications in Health Promotion, Social Work, Psychology or Counselling will also be considered.
• A current Australian driver’s licence is required.
