Job summary

Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS) in Mildura is seeking a Youth Hub Program Support Worker to plan, lead and facilitate youth activities centred on cultural connection and traditional skills.

You will support the Youth Hub Facilitator with daily management of engagements, excursions and on-country experiences to empower local Aboriginal youth.

This full-time fixed-term role is for 12 months with potential extension; availability 1pm–8pm, three days a week is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in Art Therapy (desirable).
• Experience working with Aboriginal youth and communities.
• Knowledge of cultural practices and traditional skills.

About the role

The Youth Hub Program Support Worker is responsible for assisting the Youth Hub Facilitator in planning, leading and facilitating activities in the Youth Hub and Open-country activities aimed at empowering youth through traditional skills, cultural connection, and community participation. The role involves assisting to provide meaningful, culturally relevant activities that support youth development, strengthen community ties, and celebrate cultural heritage, in line with the MDAS strategic plan to expand and enhance youth programs within the community.

Additionally, the Support Worker will assist with organising opportunities and fostering meaningful engagement with elders and other youth groups to strengthen community bonds

The flexibility to work from 1pm to 8pm, 3 days per week, if required, is critical to the success of this role.

This is a full-time fixed term opportunity for 12 months. Subject to satisfactory performance, organisational requirements and continued funding availability, the role may be extended beyond the initial term

Key Responsibilities

Support and provide assistance to the Youth Hub Facilitator with the day-to-day management of the youth engagement activities, youth focussed programmes, workshops, and social programs at the hub including excursions, sporting/recreational programs and on-country experiences.

Assist with encouraging the youth while building skills, social connections and identifying new opportunities

Encourage cultural learning, storytelling, and community pride including traditional skills and art therapy.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Experience in Art Therapy (desirable).

Experience working with Aboriginal youth and communities.

Knowledge of cultural practices and traditional skills.
