Job summary

Relationships Australia Victoria is seeking a Youth Access Worker for headspace Wonthaggi. You will join a multidisciplinary team to support young people aged 12–25 on their mental health journey, providing screening, assessments, referrals and care coordination tailored to each young person’s needs.

You will conduct risk assessments, contribute to clinical supervision, and help deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care that empowers young people to thrive.

Qualifications

• Degree in health, behavioural/social sciences, community services, or related discipline.
• Experience in screening activities to determine client needs, and to assist clients to access appropriate services.
• Experience in the youth and/or mental health sector; AHPRA/AASW registration desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide screening, assessments, referrals, brief interventions, and care coordination tailored to each young person’s needs.
• Undertake comprehensive risk assessments and implement appropriate safety strategies.
• Collaborate with the clinical team, participate in case discussions and clinical supervision, delivering evidence‑based care.

Education

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced Youth Access Worker at our Wonthaggi centre to join Relationships Australia Victoria.

About headspace

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers core areas including mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services. Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is the lead agency for headspace Wonthaggi, which is governed by a consortium of local community organisations who provide expertise, support and advice to RAV.

About the role

Reporting to the Centre Manager, you’ll become part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting young people aged 12–25 on their mental health journey. As one of the first points of contact at headspace, you’ll build meaningful relationships while providing screening, assessments, referrals, brief interventions, and care coordination tailored to each young person’s needs. You’ll confidently undertake comprehensive risk assessments and implement appropriate strategies to promote safety and wellbeing. Working collaboratively with the clinical team, you’ll actively contribute to case discussions and clinical supervision, helping deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care that empowers young people to thrive.

This role is located at Wonthaggi and is part‑time, temporary position until July 2027 (0.8FTE) working four (4) days per week with the expectation that one day per week will be an evening shift. The base salary range is $101,948 pro‑ra­ta per annum.

About you

• Degree in health, behavioural/social sciences, community services, or a related discipline that provides a sound understanding and knowledge of assessing and working with young people at risk.
• Experience in screening activities to determine client needs, and to assist clients to access appropriate services.
• Experience in the youth and/or mental health sector.
• Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or current full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (desirable).
