Busways is seeking a Yard Assistant (Maintenance) at the Blacktown Depot to support our mechanical tradespeople and workshop team. This role focuses on keeping the yard tidy, assisting with maintenance tasks, and ensuring fleet safety and readiness.

The successful applicant will have basic to intermediate mechanical knowledge, good communication skills, and be comfortable using computers and software as part of daily duties. A proactive, team-oriented mindset is essential.

  • Assist with driving or transporting parts as directed.

Yard Assistant (Maintenance)

We’re currently seeking a driven individual that has a basic to intermediate understanding of mechanical knowledge to join our team as a Yard Assistant (Maintenance). This role provides support to our mechanical tradespeople and wider workshop based team to ensure our high standards in maintaining and upkeeping our fleet are consistently met. Come on board with Busways at our Blacktown Depot.

Role Responsibilities

This role requires a mature and professional approach with excellent communication skills. Your main duties will include:

  • Cleaning the yard and mowing lawns as required
  • Emptying bins in the workshops and depot yard as required
  • Picking up and delivering parts and other objects as directed by the Workshop Manager/Supervisor
  • Carrying out maintenance and repairs to buildings as required, such as cleaning gutters and painting
  • Maintaining gardens and depot premises as required
  • Perform ad-hoc tasks and other duties as directed

Our workshop staff play a critical role within the business to ensure our ever-evolving fleet of vehicles are continually maintained to the highest standard to keep our staff and passengers safe out on the road.

You can expect to be provided with all necessary training, this will include relevant information about our various makes and models of vehicles to ensure a thorough understanding of standards required to meet contract obligations.

The Successful Applicant Will
  • A willingness to work a variety of shifts
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in working in a team environment on daily maintenance and repair schedules
  • Confidence in using computers and software packages
  • Be proactive with a drive to finding better ways to continuously improve and be adaptable in a dynamic and growing team

  • Be physically fit to carry out the necessities of the role which includes heavy lifting
  • Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical check, and working with children check.
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Hold a current Unrestricted Australian drivers licence issued by the relevant State
