The Position

Reporting directly to the Director, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Pakenham workshop and its team.

This is a hands‑on leadership position suited to someone who enjoys being on the workshop floor, working alongside tradespeople, solving problems and driving high standards of safety, quality and productivity.

You will have genuine authority to improve systems, develop the workforce and implement changes that improve workshop performance.

You will take ownership of:
  • Leading, supervising and developing a team of ten workshop personnel
  • Managing daily workflow, scheduling and labour allocation

  • Developing and maintaining workshop policies, procedures and quality systems
  • Driving a strong safety culture while maintaining productivity and delivery standards
  • Ensuring fabrication, machining and mechanical work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
  • Overseeing transport logistics and crane truck operations
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and profitability
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and professional workshop environment
About You

You are an experienced workshop leader who combines strong technical knowledge with the ability to lead, develop and hold people accountable.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience as a Workshop Manager, Workshop Supervisor or senior workshop leader
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication, boilermaking and welding processes
  • Strong understanding of manual and CNC machining
  • Mechanical fitting experience or strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience managing workshop workflow, resources and labour allocation
  • Exposure to transport logistics and crane truck operations
  • Experience developing and implementing workshop systems, procedures and processes
  • Strong planning, organisational and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, designers, draftspeople, customers and tradespeople
  • Strong computer skills and experience with job management or production systems
  • A current driver's licence
The Type of Leader We’re Looking For

  • Leads from the front and is comfortable being on the workshop floor
  • Sets clear expectations and holds people accountable
  • Treats people with respect while having the confidence to address difficult issues
  • Is honest, direct and fair
  • Takes ownership and looks for solutions rather than excuses
