Job summary

Carpentaria Shire Council in Normanton seeks a hands-on Workshop Leading Hand to coordinate daily workshop activities, supervise Diesel Fitters and Apprentices, and provide technical guidance. You will lead diagnostics, repairs and maintenance, ensuring safe, productive operations.

Role involves work in the workshop and at Council worksites and remote camps, with a focus on mentoring staff and supporting the Workshop Foreman.

Qualifications

• Mechanical trade certificate or equivalent.
• Experience with heavy vehicles and hydraulic systems.
• Strong fault-finding and maintenance skills.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor staff.

This is a hands-on leadership role supporting the Workshop Foreman with the day-to-day coordination of workshop activities, while providing technical guidance and support to Diesel Fitters and Apprentice Diesel Fitters.

• Assist with maintenance scheduling, repairs and project work.
• Undertake diagnostics, repairs, welding, hydraulics and general mechanical maintenance.
• Carry out work in the workshop and at Council worksites and remote camps.
• Support the Workshop Foreman with maintaining a safe, organised and productive workshop.

About the Candidate

Carpentaria Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Leading Hand to join our Engineering Services team based at the Normanton Depot.

• A recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Commercial Vehicles or Light Vehicle Maintenance.
• Demonstrated mechanical servicing, maintenance and fault-finding experience.
• Experience working with heavy vehicles, machinery and hydraulic systems.
• The ability to lead, communicate effectively and provide guidance to other employees.
• A minimum Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence, Multi Combination (MC) desirable.
• Heavy machinery tickets or a willingness to obtain them.

Work Environment

Classification & Salary

• Classification: LGO Level 4 Outdoor
• Salary: $103,435.07 - $52.35 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience), plus superannuation and applicable allowances in accordance with the Carpentaria Shire Council Certified Agreement.
