Job summary

Carpentaria Shire Council is seeking a Workshop Leading Hand at the Normanton Depot. You will coordinate daily workshop work, provide hands-on mechanical support, and mentor diesel fitters and apprentices.

You will also help schedule maintenance, carry out diagnostics, welding and hydraulic tasks while ensuring a safe, productive workshop environment.

Job description

Carpentaria Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Leading Hand to join our Engineering Services team based at the Normanton Depot.

This is a hands-on leadership role supporting the Workshop Foreman with the day-to-day coordination of workshop activities, while providing technical guidance and support to Diesel Fitters and Apprentice Diesel Fitters.

About the Role

As Workshop Leading Hand, you will:

• Coordinate daily workshop jobs and monitor work progress.
• Provide hands-on mechanical and technical support to workshop staff.
• Guide and mentor fitters and apprentices.
• Assist with maintenance scheduling, repairs and project work.
• Undertake diagnostics, repairs, welding, hydraulics and general mechanical maintenance.
• Carry out work in the workshop and at Council worksites and remote camps.
• Support the Workshop Foreman with maintaining a safe, organised and productive workshop.

To Be Successful You Will Have

• A recognised Mechanical Trade Certificate in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Commercial Vehicles or Light Vehicle Maintenance.
• Demonstrated mechanical servicing, maintenance and fault-finding experience.
• Experience working with heavy vehicles, machinery and hydraulic systems.
• The ability to lead, communicate effectively and provide guidance to other employees.
• A minimum Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence, Multi Combination (MC) desirable.
• Heavy machinery tickets or a willingness to obtain them.
• Salary: $103,435.07 – $52.35 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience), plus superannuation and applicable allowances in accordance with the Carpentaria Shire Council Certified Agreement.
