Job summary

WorkPac is seeking an experienced Workshop Leading Hand to guide a busy heavy vehicle workshop in Newcastle‑Maitland. You will supervise day‑to‑day mechanical repairs, servicing and fault finding of heavy vehicles and equipment.

Ensure work is completed safely and efficiently, coordinate jobs, and assist with welding or fabrication where required. A Certificate III Automotive Mechanical Technology, current trade licence and HR/HC licence are essential.

Qualifications

• Certificate III Automotive Mechanical Technology or equivalent.
• Current Trade Licence.
• HR or HC Licence current.
• Experience in a workshop or leading hand role.
• Welding, fabrication, hot work and confined space qualifications or experience are highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the workshop team with repairs and maintenance.
• Carry out servicing, inspections, fault finding and repairs on heavy vehicles.
• Ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard.
• Coordinate jobs and assist with welding/fabrication when required.
• Support planning and drive efficient workshop operations.

Job description

Our client is a leading organisation in the heavy vehicle and mechanical industry, providing quality maintenance and mechanical services. This is a great opportunity for an experienced mechanic looking to step into a Workshop Leading Hand position and support a busy workshop team.

What You Will Be Doing

Leading and supporting the workshop team with day-to-day mechanical repairs and maintenance.

Carrying out servicing, inspections, fault finding and repairs on heavy vehicles and equipment.

Ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Supporting workshop planning and coordinating jobs as required.

Assisting with welding, fabrication and hot work where required.

What You Will Need

Mechanical Trade Qualification – Certificate III Automotive Mechanical Technology or equivalent.

Current Trade Licence.

Current valid HR or HC Licence.

Previous experience in a workshop or leading hand position.

Welding, fabrication, hot work and confined space qualifications or experience are highly regarded.
