Job summary

Carpentaria Shire Council in Normanton seeks a hands-on Workshop Leading Hand to coordinate daily workshop activities, supervise Diesel Fitters and Apprentices, and provide technical guidance. You will lead diagnostics, repairs and maintenance, ensuring safe, productive operations.

Role involves work in the workshop and at Council worksites and remote camps, with a focus on mentoring staff and supporting the Workshop Foreman.

Qualifications

• Mechanical trade certificate or equivalent.
• Experience with heavy vehicles and hydraulic systems.
• Strong fault-finding and maintenance skills.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor staff.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily workshop jobs and monitor progress.
• Provide hands-on mechanical support to staff.
• Mentor fitters and apprentices.
• Assist with maintenance scheduling and project work.
• Undertake diagnostics, repairs, welding, hydraulics and general maintenance.
• Work in workshops, council worksites and remote camps.
• Support Foreman to maintain a safe, productive workshop.
