Job summary

Metso is seeking a Leading Hand for the Tomago Workshop to provide day-to-day leadership, promote a strong safety culture, and coordinate workflow to deliver high-quality outcomes for customers.

You will lead assembly, overhauls and repairs, mentor team members, and collaborate with workshop, planning, engineering and service teams to drive productivity and safe practices.

About the Role

As a Leading Hand, you will provide day-to-day leadership and support to workshop personnel, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with the Workshop Supervisor, you will be responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, coordinating workflow, supporting team development, and helping deliver exceptional outcomes for our customers.

Success in this role will be measured first and foremost by your commitment to safety, followed by your ability to lead people, drive productivity, and maintain quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

Champion Metso's safety culture and lead by example every day.

Lead assembly, overhauling and repairs of mechanical equipment and components to OEM specifications.

Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety procedures and risk controls.

Conduct and participate in pre-starts, safety observations, and hazard management activities.

Promote a proactive approach to identifying and eliminating risks.

Support investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Foster an environment where every team member feels empowered to speak up about safety concerns.

Coordinate daily workshop activities and resource allocation.

Provide guidance, coaching, and support to workshop personnel.

Develop team capability through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Promote accountability, teamwork, and high performance.

Support workforce planning and job execution to meet customer commitments.

Operational Excellence

Ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to Metso quality standards.

Liaise with workshop, planning, engineering, and service teams.

Monitor job progress and address issues that may impact delivery.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives across safety, quality, and productivity.

What We're Looking For

Demonstrated experience in a Leading Hand, Supervisor, or senior workshop position.

Strong commitment to safety leadership and safe work practices.

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.

Current driver's licence.

Ability to pass a pre-employment medical.
