Job summary

Sydney Water’s newly formed Workplace Relations team provides expert employee and industrial relations advice, coaching, and support to leaders across the organisation. As part of the Centre of Excellence, the role partners with People & Culture and key stakeholders to manage employee relations and guide organisational change.

Qualifications

  • Further qualification in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Industrial Relations, Business, Law or related discipline
  • Sound judgement, clear communication and a practical approach to workplace relations
  • Comfortable working with sensitive information and building trusted relationships across complex organisations

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical employee and industrial relations advice to leaders on performance, conduct, grievances, workplace health matters, policy application, and employment lifecycle issues
  • Manage and support workplace relations casework, including investigations, disciplinary matters, disputes, consultation processes, and organisational change activities
  • Interpret and apply employment legislation, Enterprise Agreements, Awards, and organisational policies to ensure compliant and consistent decision-making
  • Build trusted partnerships with leaders, People & Culture teams, unions, and key stakeholders to deliver balanced, risk-based workplace relations outcomes
  • Support enterprise bargaining, employee consultation, and stakeholder engagement activities across workplace and organisational change initiatives
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement of workplace relations frameworks, processes, and governance practices

  • Join a newly formed Workplace Relations team that partners with key stakeholders across Sydney Water on complex employee and industrial relations matters.

  • Collaborative, practical team focused on building capability, sharing knowledge and delivering sound outcomes.

  • EA 14 (35 hours) - $139,312.15 + super. Parramatta based with hybrid working available


About the Role

The Workplace Relations Advisor provides expert employee and industrial relations advice, coaching, and support to leaders across Sydney Water. As part of the Workplace Relations Centre of Excellence, the role partners with People & Culture teams and key stakeholders to manage employee relations matters, support organisational change, and facilitate consultation processes.


The position helps ensure compliance with employment legislation, enterprise agreements, and organisational policies while building leadership capability, mitigating workplace risk, and delivering practical, commercially balanced workplace relations outcomes.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide practical employee and industrial relations advice to leaders on performance, conduct, grievances, workplace health matters, policy application, and employment lifecycle issues.

About You

In addition to a further qualification in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Industrial Relations, Business, Law or a related discipline, you bring sound judgement, clear communication and a practical approach to workplace relations. You are comfortable working with sensitive information and building trusted relationships across complex organisations.


Ideally you will also have:


  • Experience providing employee relations, industrial relations, or human resources advice within a complex organisational environment.

  • Demonstrated capability managing employee relations matters, including performance management, misconduct, grievances, policy interpretation, and workplace investigations.

  • Proven ability to partner with leaders and stakeholders to deliver effective people and business outcomes, supported by strong communication and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment, with strong report writing and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated project management capability, coupled with a strong commitment to professional ethics, discretion, and confidentiality.

  • Experience in industrial relations matters, including tribunal representation and field-based environments, is desirable.
