Job summary

Sydney Water is looking for hands-on trades-ready individuals to join our frontline maintenance teams across the network. You will work on stormwater, potable water and sewer systems, performing essential repairs and construction tasks with safety and efficiency.

The role supports critical infrastructure with a 38-hour week and a 9-day fortnight, offering permanent employment and the potential for career growth within Sydney Water.

Qualifications

  • Experience in manual labour, ideally in maintenance, stormwater, civil, or water mains.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence (MR minimum) or willingness to upgrade.
  • White Card safety induction.
  • Experience with excavation, concreting, or general labour.
  • Willingness to travel across Sydney Water’s network.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on water and sewer mains, hydrants, valves and access chambers.
  • Carry out construction tasks including trench excavation, pipe laying, restoration and plant operation.
  • Operate mechanical and manual tools safely to complete projects.
  • Maintain client relationships and adhere to contracts and briefs.
  • Ensure the safe operation of Sydney Water’s equipment and assets.

About the role

As a key member of our frontline team, you will play a vital role in maintaining Sydney Water’s network assets. You’ll ensure our water services are safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible meeting regulatory standards and exceeding customer expectations.

This hands-on role supports our core network assets: Stormwater, Potable Water, and Sewer systems.

What will you be doing?
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on water and sewer mains, hydrants, valves, and access chambers.
  • Carry out construction tasks including trench excavation, pipe laying, restoration, plant operation, truck driving, steel fixing, and carpentry.
  • Operate both mechanical and manual tools to complete projects safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and deliver work aligned with briefs, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Ensure the safe operation of Sydney Water’s equipment and assets.
Who are we looking for?

We are seeking individuals who are safety-focused, team-oriented, and customer-driven. If you have experience in manual labour, stormwater drainage, civil works, or water maintenance, we would love to hear from you.

You will need:
  • A current NSW Driver’s Licence (Medium Rigid minimum; willingness to upgrade to Heavy Rigid if required)
  • SafeWork NSW Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Experience in manual labour, ideally in maintenance, stormwater, civil, or water mains
  • Front End Loader and Confined Space tickets (highly desirable)
  • Flexibility to travel across Sydney Water’s network
  • Experience in excavation, concreting, and general labouring.
  • Availability Monday to Friday (6:30am – 4:00pm), with overtime and weekend work as required
