Real hazards. Real impact. Are you the WHS Advisor we're looking for?

At Sims, safety is more than policies and procedures. It's about protecting people, driving operational excellence, and creating a culture where everyone takes responsibility for working safely.

We're seeking an experienced and proactive WHS Advisor to join our team based in St Marys. In this role, you'll support multiple operations across New South Wales, partnering with leaders and frontline employees to identify risks, improve safety performance, and ensure compliance with environmental and workplace health and safety requirements.

This position is primarily office-based, with regular travel to operational sites across NSW. Flexibility is important, as occasional short-notice travel may be required in response to incidents or operational needs.

About the role

Reporting into the EHS function, you will provide expert advice and support across a highly industrial operating environment. You'll play a key role in fostering a strong safety culture, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring environmental and safety risks are effectively managed.

  • Partner with operational leaders and employees to promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
  • Identify hazards and assess operational, environmental, chemical, physical, and process-related risks.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Develop, implement, and review WHS and Environmental Management Plans.
  • Monitor and report on safety and environmental performance across multiple sites.
  • Provide expert advice on WHS legislation, risk management, and safety systems.
  • Manage workers' compensation claims and facilitate return-to-work programs.
  • Act as a key contact for regulators, customers, contractors, and external stakeholders regarding EHS matters.
  • Support site leaders with hazard management, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver training, coaching, and guidance to employees and management teams.
About you

We're looking for a hands-on safety professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment and enjoys building strong relationships across multiple sites.

  • Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience in a WHS/EHS advisory role within a highly industrial environment, such as manufacturing, recycling, logistics, heavy industry, mining, waste management, or construction.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety risks, hazard identification, and risk management principles.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Proven experience undertaking and facilitating risk assessments.
  • Experience managing workers' compensation and return-to-work processes.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
  • Current unrestricted driver's licence.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across NSW, including occasional travel at short notice following workplace incidents.
Highly Desirable

  • Experience supporting multi-site operations.
